He clearly already preferred you over any other prospects he might have had, and your realization that delay on your part would lose him prompted what turned out to be the right decision. Not many couples have as much time together as you and Evan did, and his thoughtfulness about not stifling your educational aspirations enabled your independence once he was gone. The book you are writing as a conversation with him about your time together is proof that your sixty-one years of marriage were good, and a fine remembrance for your family. I am happy for you.

What a wonderful story. It is so wonderful you guys had all those lovely years together with all the highs and lows. I could see a little bit of your personality in not being completely open, initially with the weekday dates with Evan that I detected with some of your kids later. Good read and no spags.

Thank You for the great review. I definitely have my flaws but don't we all? My husband used to say I was tended to be devious, but after a few years, he decided I had overcome that for the most part.

Yes, we can "choose" to be victims or free and capable of independence, and quite often one partner will follow the other into death because of too much dependence, but don't we raise our to be that way? Marriage and children can be wonderful, and we should be as one flesh, but we are not without recourses, after all, the Lord is husband to the widow, and Father to the orphan. Marriage and children can be wonderful, and we should be as one flesh, but we are not without recourses, after all, the Lord is husband to the widow, and Father to the orphan.
