I always enjoy your essays about your teaching experiences and the wonderful school where you taught. Your students were very lucky to have a teacher like you.

Here is a six to say, "Well done!", Wendy. I so enjoy reading of success and joy in teaching. So little to say about mainstream education in America today. Your experience seems to be the preferred, yet likely only enjoyed by you happy few.

Hello Wendy,
I loved your story about working in a school. Obviously you were a big part of the success. I worked in the local school as a spec-ed aid. I wish I could say that it was enjoyable most of the time but it wasn't. Often I felt like the kids I worked with were shuffled off to get them out of the way, and many times I felt like I was just a glorified babysitter. That being said, however, I had one student in particular who made my day. He was so much fun to work with. I'm sure you were an exceptional teacher. Well done gal.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thanks so much Tom. I am sure that you helped the students feel wanted and needed. Special Ed is a hard road. I did that for two years too. We fostered a severely disabled boy for ten years, and our goal was that he would be helped to achieve his maximum potential. Some teachers worked with us. Others just didn?t. But I?m sure your students knew you cared and tried your best.

This came over to me as an autobiographical account, and very interesting I found it too. It was as if you were interviewing yourself without stating the questions you put to yourself.

However I don't think that is what the contest organisers were after.

I have graded it as a five star work because of its interest to me as an ex teacher and at this stage I am not passing judgement on it as an entry in the contest.

No, it?s not an interview at all, and wasn?t meant to be in that contest. No idea what happened, as it was entered in "From Beginning to End". Due to travelling I?ve been without internet for a couple of days, so couldn?t get on to explain. It couldn?t be removed or disqualified from the contest because it?s an unmonitored contest.
So it?s been embarrassing and frustrating and an annoying waste of "money". Apparently the same problem has I occurred lately for a few others as well. Technology and I are barely speaking at present!
So I greatly appreciate your generous five stars!

I love this post and the quick vignettes about opening the new school. I have heard through the grapevine that it got posted under the wrong contest. I am so sorry. I still loved it.

When the teenagers couldn't keep up? Or .... ;))

P1 s2: (brand new) should be (brand-new) Hyphen
P2, s2: Remove one space between (I'd) and (always)
P4, s1: Insert a comma between (calm) and (learning)
P4, s5: SUGGEST Inserting (the) before (outcomes)
P9, s2: SUGGEST (strong) instead of (strongly)

You have led such an interesting, productive life. This seems to be just one more major accomplishment for you. Very admirable. I know why they will miss you.

Thanks for sharing your school memories from what sounds like an incredible school. I read some of the ratings to see why this was an interview - that's annoying, but I know it occasionally happens.

Well told, Wendy. I wish all of our schools could be smaller and more intimate, but those days are gone:-(

Take care,
Pam

Thank you Pam. I appreciate your taking the time to review my stray piece. It was meant for the "Beginning and End" contest. That?s the second time this has happened to me. But someone mentioned that it has happened a few times to different people lately. Technology can be a little mischievous, and frustrating. I wanted it withdrawn from the Interview contest, as it?s embarrassing to have it there, but I see it is still there.

I loved your memories of your teaching years at that wonderful school! And of course, you were a well loved teacher and I agree that it's better to leave than be asked to leave! Teaching positions come and go so easily depending on the population of children at any given time, at least in public schools.
I hope you daughter has fully recovered from her "long Covid" symptoms. Is she back to teaching now?

Thank you so much for your lovely review for my story which somehow got put into the wrong contest. Lol. I?m 99.9 percent sure I entered the correct one, but technology and I are not on speaking terms at present.
Yes, once she finished her isolation she was required to go back, so she kept going right through debilitating tiredness. She missed more days with Influenza. Still gets very tired but I think she?s gradually getting her strength back. The school day is long, one and a half hours longer (each day) than public schools, and only a half hour lunch break. So although it? a wonderful school, teachers work very hard.

She's amazing as are you! Teachers are very dedicated and work so many more hours than in school!
I wondered why this post was in that contest. Lol.

Another nice teaching story. Abseiling was a new word for me. Thanks. I have only pleasant memories from my teaching days. I retired early (ten years) because of family sickness. There were a lot of worthless rules and requirements that had started to show up, and I was not unhappy about leaving. It has been over forty years now, but some of my students still keep in touch.

Thanks so much Paul. A super review. Teaching is rewarding, but it is very hard work behind the scenes. And hard to cope with other pressures simultaneously, so a wise decision for you.
