Thank you so much. Hope I don't disappoint. Not sure if you've read the previous parts but they start with Allow me to introduce Myself, the Dumped and Fired, Dumped and Fired pt 2, and so on. Hope you will continue to enjoy

It's not often that asking someone who doesn't usually do the right thing will make a difference. But as long as we ask, I guess, we've done our part. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent chapter. I like the character development. Waylon is becoming aware of his father's abandonment of him, and this would not be easy for him to cope with, together with all the other issues associated with being a teenager. Your description of Miranda is very insightful and intuitive. She's tough, but practical and good-hearted. Yet there might be repercussions about her taking the kid's phone. Teens would not like that. Looking forward to seeing what happens with this neighbour Aaron. Also looking forward to the next chapter.
Wendy

Oh-oh. Looking at someone messages is one thing but taking his phone along may cause some fireworks later. Hope Miranda knows what she's doing. Enjoyed the interchange with the favor-asking neighbor.

You have such a soft touch with this story. It seems to flow so effortlessly. It makes me anxious to get back into the story/novel format and away from the play (which, thank God, I now can do)! You have such good control over all your characters. Today, with just a few words, "I notice the tiniest smirk" we see that he is warming to Miranda.

"Dougie, for once, do the right thing. Call your kid." I think as I slide his phone into my back pocket. [Gretchen, consider reversing the order of the "thought identifier". For one thing, writing experts tell us that what comes last in the sentence will be construed by the reader as the most important. But also, in this instance, to start out with the dialogue shocks my system because I don't yet know she's NOT saying it aloud.]

Regardless of the above, you're really making everything come alive!

Jay

Well things seem to be settling into a routine for Miranda
and Waylon. She seems to actually like be the mother figure.
You did a great job, Gretchen. I liked the interaction with
Aaron. Waylon seems to be understanding he needs to be
in school and do his homework. Aaron sounds like a leftover
hippie and doesn't care what others think about him.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

This was a lovely chapter. So real for a lot of young people. Looks like he is finding some comfort and caring with his stepmom. Wonderful story. Keep it coming. No spags!

Very nice. Good character development.
i wasn't quite convinced of the hyperbole with respect to doing the truck-fetching errand for Aaron, though.
Best wishes.

It's hard enough for a young boy to be deserted and still come up for air, this Dougie is a slob. But he realise he has a gem in Miranda. This Aaron is an interesting character, you're heading in an interesting direction Gretchen, well dine, great post, blessings Roy

I like Miranda. She is good hearted in spite of the fact the world is tossing her Lemons at the moment. She is making Lemonade. Wanting to do the right thing for the boy dumped in her lap by an arrogant boyfriend. I hope he calls the boy too, but he probably won't. Well done Gretchen. Nancy:)
