I guess, we just need to keep our eyes on the African Violet if we want to get treated and survive a heart attack. LOL. Save the plants will be my new bumper sticker. Thanks for sharing.

Lol. Not sure it works in real life! I have lost several African violets, they are quite fussy! But I am still hanging around.
Thanks for reviewing. Appreciated.

What a remarkable story, Wendy! And I was really worried that Jenny was going to die which would have made the plant to be a bad omen. But in her case, it seemed to have the gift of prophecy and one that can be needed! Congratulations on the win!

This is a good entry to the contest. The text is large and easy to read. The message is clear with a supernatural vein running from the beginning to end of the story. It reads almost like a supernatural themed story. I am glad Jenny did not die. You have a good entry. Good luck in the contest.

"The flowers falling off" may read better as the flowers fell off.
The grandmother dying five days later a jolt out of the blue. So was her mother dying. Perhaps the violet was garnishing revenge for not being left alone?
Seemed all is well that ended well though.

Wendy, what a creative imagination you have in addition to your superb writing skills. I enjoyed this story although I admit I was getting a bit nervous as I read through understanding that the dying african violet had some kind of sixth sense regarding death. Thanks for the happy ending :)

This had a paranormal flavor to it. Not overtly paranormal but a hint. It was a good story. Two suggestions. You don't need the section about Jenny's house having indoor plants and then her mom and grandmother having the same. You already established Jenny is a third generation plant lover. And second, put more of the tactile details in when talking about the African violet. The velvety leaves , the smell of the dirt when it's watered. It would put the reader right there. I did really like your story. Good luck in the contest.

Nice story - similar to stories we used to see on black and white TV shows in the 1960s like "One Step Beyond" or "Outer Limits," maybe "Twilight Zone."

Thank you so much for reviewing. Interestingly, I have never seen any of those shows!

An intriguing story you have told here of an African violet that forecast death. Fortunately Jenny recognized the "signs" in time to save her own life. I just lost a small African violet. I hope that's not foreboding. Rod

Lol. I?m sure you?ll be okay. I have lost many African violets in the past - they are quite fussy. But I?m still here! They?ll thrive when everything suits them, otherwise ?.
I appreciate your time and review.

This is an interesting story. I love how you put Jenny's flower together with the lives of this family. It's a great idea and this was enjoyable. I could see this part of a larger story - a novel even - as it's a creative idea. Great job! An enjoyable story!
