great music. I love this deep philosophical poem and I like your style, the vocabulary choices, the flow, the message, the questioning tone that underlies it all

Thanks so much, Jake - in the end, it's the questioning that matters most, I think :-). I'm glad you enjoyed the music, too. I find them very inspiring.

Your poem was a delightful symphony of words. I have never heard of the philosophical rock but it does sound intriguing. I enjoyed the poem. Gretchen

Our imagination gives us the tools to write poems like this Mike and only those talented with words can create an atmospheric ambience like this, the last stanza is my favourite, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly :-). I love to try for that overall presentation - as much a feeling as a meaning - and see how readers respond!

Hello, Mike ~
I love the first line of this poem! I think all of us feel this and work through the inspiration you describe. And that last image - a sea of mystery. .. Cool!
Thank you for writing a thoughtful poem - I can tell you took the time needed to create it and give us your best.
Blessings,
Deb

This is a great ensemble. Your use of language in smart and meaningful.
It's the first time I hear about Epica as I'm quite new to metal.
I love Sabaton, but my favourite metal singer is DanVasc. He's a YouTuber with an incredible voice. He just posted a video with Fabio Lione from Rhapsody of Fire and Angra.
I'm really happy to have found this post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Heather - I'm so glad you liked it :-). I like all sorts of music but symphonic metal always works for me, and Epica are the best at creating songs from the ground up with orchestra, choir, and a metal band. Many thanks for the additional suggestions!

I'll definitely add Epica to my list.
Have a nice day.

Mike! Good to see you back! I guess life has kept you busy but you came back with a bang! That poem is powerful and metal music is beyond me. But I enjoyed how you took the words of the song and flew with it into the the realms of the creative thought process.

Thank you, Helen :-). I love the european symphonic metal bands, because their music is heavy but not aggressive (unless the song calls for it) unlike UK/US metal bands that think it needs to be violent.
That's by the by, though - the key is what gets inspired!
As for me, hopefully I'll be around more again now - being a civil servant, having a new prime minister and a new king makes for very busy work days that don't leave me any energy for creating.

Now you got me curious about your job. Do you work for the PM or King directly?

I'm not familiar with Epica, and illumination will have to wait until my family have left and the TV goes back to being a sterile black box, so Daddy and I can listen to music and radio. But already I can comment technically - your enigmatic rhyme schemes are sublime, and gave me much pleasure. Kate xx

Thank you, Kate :-). I love their music because it's complicated and quirky, and changed my mind about how well orchestras and bands can work together. Not to mention, most of their lyrics sound like half of my poetry, lol.

This poem has a decidedly pleasant flow to accompany the creative thoughts that abound. Some of your phrases are fascinating: footsteps' girth, perspectives' purse, and fundamental building bricks-all wrapped up carefully in alliteration.

Thank you, Verna :-). I love playing with alliteration and internal rhyme to speed things up and make pulses in the poem's flow. I'm really glad you liked it.

I guess I don't think terribly differently to you, I'm a bit too much for some fellow Christians, who love the simplicity of belief, but if you've got some glimpse into my head, you'll discover I want more, having discovered the complexities of what of what I believe, I dig deeper, but the uniformity of those things I've discovered stand out from the chaotic blind spots of anything else, I can understand how the "creative" takes over. Beautifully written Mike, welcome back, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy :-). Hopefully, I'll be around a bit more once again - if the day job allows. I like that you don't see faith as a blocker to imagination and questioning (indeed, there's no reason it should be). I'm really glad you liked it!

Forget opposable thumbs, Mike, it's imagination that makes us self-aware and apart from the rest of creation--so far as we know, anyway. Without imagination we could have no God, no mysteries, no art, and no critics.
I think that's your point. Or perhaps it's just my imagination playing acid tricks on me. Deep and fulfilling.
Peace, Lee

Thanks so much, Lee :-). I remember thinking once that the bible was the first fantasy novel (not an insult - just an observation). Without wonder, we're nothing, as you say!
