This is a very well written poem. You used a lot of great descriptive words and very good imagery from the picture you used. Thank you for sharing. Teri

Mike,
I like this internal rhyming free verse poem about our imagination and how it is linked to the mystery of the universe. It shows imagination is a mix of reality and fantasy. Wee done
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Wow, Deep Stuff! This band's lyrics are inspirational and made me think. Impressive that they are a Dutch symphonic group and d all their own lyrics and music. Their music is a little too heavy for me, but great lyrics.
Imagination is one of our greatest gifts, enabling us to reach beyond the known and accepted. Liked your exploration of our psyches, kind of a tossup, the amount of inspiration they bring compared to what we dream up ourselves.
Great work,
irish

Thanks, Irish :-). If you want a less cacophonous song, try listening to their tune 'Rivers' - I would have linked it, but it didn't fit into my poem so well. I love exploring what makes us tick, especially us artsy types, and how we can weave our own blankets or understanding just by twining the threads of our thoughts.

-Good artwork and presentation, Mike.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-You poem flows well with effective imagery and rhyme.
-The first two lines establish the premise.
-I like the middle section with the shorter lines
that mimic the beats in music, supported by good rhymes.
-Good enjambment from those lines to the the opening of the final verse.
-You do a good job describing the show and the "exaltation rushing to the sea of mystery."
-Well done.

I am glad you posted this poem. I was starting to worry about you. I hope you were just extremely busy and nothing more serious. I enjoyed reading the poem and agree imagination is extremely important with our creativity. My boys would enjoy the music, sorry not me so much.

Thank you, Barbara :-). Stupid day job has been bonkers the past few weeks (I'm a civil servant and we have a new prime minister and King, which has large knock-on effects). Things seem to be levelling off now, though, so I have some energy left to create things once again!

When heavy metal bands allure
this poet that is shy, demure,
the sun won't shine nor moon will glow
for banging guitars have to go.

philosophy will always shine
When it is yours, or be it mine,
Enigmas with some wherewithall
Are universal to us all.

Hopefully,

On this
We can agree

Wisdom is precious ~ universally!

Thank you, Melissa, for the poem-in-kind :-). What a wonderful compliment! I think we?re onto something here - not rap battles, but poetry conversations.

Very Cool! The poem is great and the artwork as well. I can also see the inspiration of that song. I actually liked the song and video very much! I listen to all kinds of music, but heavy rock and metal is where I wet my feet at an early age. Amon Amarth's Pursuit of Vikings is a great song in the death metal genre (or whatever it may be called now) that I actually like also as I'm not typically fond of death metal. The technical playing and the singer's voice are awesome, I must now check out more Epica, thank you and thanks for sharing!!

Thank you :-). Similarly, I listen to lots of things but I do love symphonic metal when it's done right, and Epica are particularly good at combining the orchestral stuff with some properly heavy tunes. And yeah - Simone Simons is pretty awesome! Tha ks for the suggestion - I'll go have a listen - and thanks for the great review.

I'm often inspired by my trips to foreign lands. Your inspiration of this poem came from a show. I watched and it's indeed grand, futuristic and inspiring. I like your poems that are often philosophical and metaphorical. It's often thought provoking.

Excellent and write on.

Thank you so much :-). When I feel as though I just want to write something but don't know what, a concert by a favourite band is usually a good source, or simply a browse through some beautiful imagery until one strikes a spark against the flint of my imagination...

Go outside and take a walk. Then you'll find inspiration. As an English man, you'll appreciate this.

I recently went down to the Minneapolis Rowing Club after 30 years of absent and started rowing again. My husband wants to learn, too. But I picked it up right away and my body still remember how to row after 30 years. I will write a poem about it.

Ahh, I'm so glad to see your work again, Mike. I thought you had ghosted us! This is a beautiful poem; the second stanza or paragraph sequence was outstanding. The music I can leave behind. That being said, I'm happy to see you are here. Best, JohnC

Thanks so much, John :-). Unfortunately, my work life has exploded recently in terms of how much I have to get done, and I've been too wiped out to be creative, but things are thankfully starting to level off. Hopefully this is the beginning of me being around more!
