That is a lovely, amazing picture, and I can say exactly the same words for your 1-6-1 poem. I don't think I've ever read one of these small poems that works so well, with so few words as yours has. Very well done! Good luck in the contest. I think it's a winner. :)) Sandra xx

I enjoy the imagery. The poem works perfectly with the photo. Rhyming "winds" with "distends" and "bends" is a little bit forced but I think works. Good luck with the contest.

Stunning image of the tree suffering from the effects of powerful wind. Change does distend and alter the shape of all one knows. It's not quite a perfect rhyme with lines two and three, but it is meaningful. Best wishes for your entry.

The poem "The Aged" is a 1-6-1 with a requirement that all three lines rhyme. In the poem, the subject is an old tree evergreen tree of some kind near the ocean. It is bent over in its age.

This is a great example of a 1-6-1 verse.

Using seven words to express a complex concept is not easy.

This verse explores reincarnation.
I interpreted this as the process of someone passing, their soul travels, (bends, distends,) into another person.

I know some do not believe in reincarnation, but I have a personal experience.

My son was born, as my father was on his death bed.
I was standing next to his bed when he died holding my newborn son.
I believe his soul stretched into my son.

To this day, he is truly
an "old soul," as the saying goes.

Thank you for sharing.

Wow, this is really lovely. I'm not sure if "winds" rhymes with "distends" although it might be simply a matter of my Canadian accent... I thought to mention my concern simply because I love the poem! Best of luck in the contest!

Hello Dawn... thank you. I will double check the pronunciation, but here in the south it rhymes... but, I will check. Thank you.

A double meaning was what I got from this. The natural element of the tree or bush that changes its growth pattern to the constant pressure of the elements. Then the person who changes over time either physically or mentally. Outside forces at work. Great poem. Gretchen

This is a good entry to the 1-6-1 poetry contest. It reminds me of what older people must do to live in a technological and computerized world. The text is large and easy to read and understand. The visual fits well. I would remove the lone comma. It's not needed for this short poem. You have a good entry. Good luck in the contest.
