The uncle on the bottom of the lake would be an enticing mystery.

"horse power" should be horsepower.

Good question about how Aaron can afford both trucks. Answered by a loan from his father (maybe?)

Waylon with a weapon in school. That came out of the blue. But, definately will lure readers back to see what happens next.

Ohhhh dear. I know what that weapon is because the awesome author of this book introduced it to us last chapter.

Well, if anyone can talk him out of this fix, it's Miranda, who just becomes more lovable with every chapter. And, little by little, Waylon is seeing her virtue, too. Aaron, well, he's still pretty vacant. But what's cool about Miranda is that she lets him be who he is and just goes on about her business. She's very accepting but with a cryptic little sense of humor about it.

You're being so good with carrying the pace right along while not "rushing" it. The progression seems very realistic, and the characters continue to grow with each new chapter. You're doing SO great with this, Gretchen! I continue to absolutely love reading this book. xo

Congratulations! Everyone else has thought that Waylon has a gun and he's doing it to get his dad's attention. You were the only one who connected the two. I am loving your feedback. Makes me want write the next chapter. I really appreciate this fabulous review. Gretchen

I'm a 'noticer.' I think it's from years and years of reading mysteries and getting that 'hinky' feeling when I need to remember something important.

It would be tough being stuck with someone else's child, cleaning up the mess that some parents have made. It's funny when one is an actual parent, not understanding why folk would dump a child, it's a tough gig loving someone, particularly abandoned people, this will find Miranda out, my bet she can't leave Waylon to the dogs. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

I think despite her tough exterior, she's a softie. Thanks so much for the wonderful review.

Great place to end to keep us wanting to know more!
I liked that Miranda and Waylon was falling into step with each other and it seemed the maternal side of her is really waking up both in her protectiveness (worried about Aaron doing drugs and his influence) and the need to nurture and provide (cooking him breakfast and making a space for him.)

It seemed Aaron is dreadfully lazy, dealing drugs, or
just plain stupid. He wants a cohort who was possibly
Waylon. I wondered how much longer Miranda would put
up with both of them. I don't think she would give up on
Waylon. I believe he took the weapon to school hoping to
get caught. Maybe he thought that way his dad would contact
him. It created a messy situation for sure.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I think Aaron has a good heart but does have his issues. I do appreciate your input. Great review. Thanks. Gretchen

This can't at all be good. Did Waylon find it with the cars at the pond? I am wondering what happens needs. Thank you for sharing.

I pause wondering how to politely say his father abandoned him with me, "he's staying with me. (capital 'h' neded on 'he's')

You certainly know how to do the cliffhanger thing, Gretchen.
You always leave me wanting to know what happened! Poor Marinda. It has been one step forward and two steps back ever since she realized she has the responsibility of a teenage boy. It's difficult enough when you start from scratch with a kid butto have to take one on as a teen would be earthshaking. LOL Love it so far. I'm on her side! Nancy:)

Any time Miranda or any of us are fooling with boys there will always be problems. It's just the nature of things. Young or old, 'cause they never grow up. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Always an enjoyable read, Gretchen! The characters have an addictive pull, and I especially love Miranda. She's relatable to me because I've known someone like her in the past. She brings a wisp of nostalgia. Loved it! Best, JohnC.

Gretchen, you've got a winner by the tail. I hope it takes you all the way to a publisher. I have a hunch about the gun, but I'll hold it for the next chapter. I don't want to be a spoiler for my own enjoyment. Anyway, I wish I had a six to give you for this. It's certainly worthy of one.

Thank you so much, Jay. This is very unlike me as far as story telling goes. I used to get characters in my head. I'd follow them and let them tell me their story. This one comes to me in full blown scenes. It's weird, but it's working. I appreciate any and all feedback that you give me. Gretchen

You may be entering a new stage in creative evolution. I don't know any more than you, but to me, you have to be alert to these changes and work with them, but not force them. That's how we keep growing as artists. Doesn't that make some kind of sense?
