What a perfect essay on how things change quickly from one generation to the next. By using music as your subject, you made the trip fun, clearly understood and a trip down memory lane.
I am in a bit of a philosophical mood lately and this is one of those on-the-surface light pieces with a very deep meaning - at least for me. You could have taken a life, a car, a communication, opportunities for women, politics, or a million other things. The basic premise would not change -- just the examples.
Life goes on and every generation has a new idea .... but what must be remembered is, every new idea is built on an old one and we (including the beatles) stand on someone else's shoulders when we reach for the stars.
This piece reached all 6 of the stars. I love it, love it love it. Great writing.

My dad blamed everything on Elvis. He's positive Elvis caused everything to go wrong. He's shouldn't have moved those hips. LOL Thank you for sharing this post. I don't think seventeen-year-old in today's have those thoughts. I hope I'm wrong.

I loved this post! I remember all of those groups! And, they were the next big thing. My parents were not all that thrilled with my choice since my lessons were classical music. So I played my favorites when they were out of the house. Sarah

Dang it! It's Wednesday, I think, and I'm out of sixes! You're the same age as my older brother Robbie. Yes, we had it good, my friend, really great years of stellar music.
My brother introduced me American Bandstand and we watched so many of these groups perform, but never The Beatles, not live. The first time I saw them was on The Ed Sullivan Show. 1964, I think. I loved Paul the best right away, (and I still do to this day.) I got a record player that year and began to buy 45s which to me, we're gold. Two sided hits for fifty cents! Insane! Can't beat that! Honestly, we lived in the best years of music. Nothing I hear today even compares. That's just me, I guess. My taste has been formed by the greats, and is eclectic because back then they weren't separated on the radio station. I love Roy Orbison, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, The Beatles, The Monkees, and Bobbie Gentry. Linda Ronstadt, The Association, and TheTroggs are coming up on my Jukebox His as well as my favorite Beatles song of all time. No one ever guesses it. The King will be sighted again towards the top. Tune in to my Sally's Jukebox Hits if you haven't.
Thank you for sharing. I travel to my record player when I want to hear the greats. They're still as great in 2022.

Loved this! It reminded me of my Nana. She happened to write, well type, 92 pages of her young life and all of the things that were coming out when she was a girl. I wish she'd kept on going. She saw a LOT of inventions come along during her lifetime!
She was born in the early 1900s, I think, it may have been the late 1800s. In any case, the lightbulb had been invented, but hadn't become a household item yet. The family was using a wood stove to cook on in the kitchen, and just as the job of cleaning the lampblack out of the globes each week was falling from her sister to her, the landlord put in electricity, and they got real lights, so she didn't have to clean them! She saw her first car when an uncle came to visit. He took them for a ride around the town and they had to stop every few minutes to patch the tire. ;)
Her dad got a new job, they moved to the city. Her mother's first experience with a gas stove. She tried to light it, it blew up and threw her mother across the room. That's how they met my father's family. lol My great-grandmother came rushing over to make sure everyone was okay.
But to think of all she saw! She went from those days to the days of computers and microwave popcorn. Talk about a change!

But for a few exceptions (those from Parkland High), I see little evidence of any social movement or identity, such as was dominant in the 60s.
