The unspoken support of teachers in our youth is one of the most formative things for a child and I'm eternally grateful for teachers like the one you described.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. Yes, growing up can often be difficult and children shouldn't have to live that way. Your entry was very well written.

Thank you for your submission. Still, how did you feel and why didn't she pull you aside on the sly and ask how to help? Did you get a grade? I sense her compassion was indeed present, but would like to know more.

Looking back is always difficult. I was surprisingly successful with exceptional grades during my academic years with exception to English. Ms. Johnson was a very black and white, very unapproachable person. While I never missed a day of school, she never saw me, never coached me or encouraged me, while she didn?t fail me it was the C grade I ever had throughout school.

Pensive, melancholy piece...

Excellent tone throughout...

So many secrets go unrevealed...do the seekers ask, yet fear the answer???

That tear spoke volumes!

This is a a creative use of the prompt.

It is poetically clever and metaphorically driven.

The phraseology is excellent, inviting the reader to take the journey the poet has written.

The sensory details add dimension and help the reader to "feel" the journey.

I appreciate the presentation, it is well done.

Thank you for sharing.

An adult with the ability to understand saw. She saw and understood. The unspoken message of a single tear spoke volumes more voluminous than a four or five page dissertation. You honor her by writing in your journal what you could not in her class.

I will always hold her in great esteem for her silent respect for my need for privacy.

It's amazing how the homelike is now front and center. From neglect to poverty to abuse. The schools are constantly looking. And looking to help. Fifty years ago it was a different story. You were only the focus from 8 to 3. No one checked on you. Black eyes weren't questioned. Ill fitting shoes were ignored. Your poem was a vulnerable piece. Kudos. Gretchen

You are worldly wise to the ways of the days gone passed. Yet, much remains to be done for the youth of America who live in two worlds the classroom and a house that may or may not be safe haven.

This is very interesting what you have penned for the writing prompt asking why you write. You used very good words, but I don't recall reading why you write. Thank you for sharing! Teri

Great job on the poem. Once, in middle school, my nephew had to do a Genealogy project. When I found out, I told my brother he better inform the teacher this may be difficult and expose him to some "non-normal" tragedies on my father's side of our family tree before he was a little older and heard about them from us. Luckily, he only needed to go back to his grandparents - my mother and father. Thank you for sharing this!

so often the skeletons are never exposed, people pass away and then there are only mysteries and so often unresolved pain. I hope your nephew has found the answers.

Perhaps she understood but didn't want to intrude. Nevertheless it initiated the desire and the fire to write. Beautifully expressed, an excellent entry. Sending best wishes for your poem.
