I enjoyed the answer. Would you have continued journaling had Ms. Johnson discussed your incomplete project with you? I expect she recognized that she may have cut open a wound and felt it would be rude to dig deeper. Well written poem. The rhyming of the first and last line in each quatrain was not immediately obvious (I'm was looking for an aabb or abab) but played well.

Charles, she never broached the subject. I often wonder some 60 years later had she what a sea of changes that would have brought about. Yes, I thought ABCA to marry with the free verse narrative nicely.

Well, I guess in this case the main character is writing because of force. In beginning many of us wrote because of an assignment in school. This makes this poem relatable. Interesting rhyme scheme too.

Lance of force of nature to purge all the stuffed family of origin stuff that makes us who we are in life.

A blank piece of paper is difficult for many experienced writers. I'm sure it's worse for a school child. I'm glad your experience in Ms. Johnson's class inspired you to purchase a journal and begin your writing journey. Best wishes in the contest.
