I think you're right Melissa, I try to use it to bring into my front room what it was meant for, a gigantic library that opens the mind to both possibilities, and, I'm case, poor education, the kids are sometimes using it for mind numbing activities, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Melissa,

Very nice entry for the contest - you applied the KISS method of (poetry) writing!

I am guilty a bit that I spend too much time looking at my Ipad or phone. But since my children in their elementary school years did not have access to these electronic devices, they were not isolated. We always ate dinners together to discuss that day's events. Now of course, sometimes dinner is interrupted by my children and grandchildren by FaceTime, but I am OK with that ! (-;

Thank you very much, Mark. I'm so glad to read that your family enjoyed their time together at the table... so important.

Wow. That's devastating with that picture. Without that picture, I think of someone who is deaf and the lack of communication causes that isolation. But you're right with all the young parents on their phones, the little ones are missing out on the verbal interactions which are so key to emotional and psychological and language development! Best wishes in the contest!

That cell phone could save a life. Especially if someone follows the child. And the way things are going with schools being targeted. It would sure help call 911. As long as the child followed the rules, parents set for them,
on use, there should be no harm in a child with a cell phone.

Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.

Excellent topic for your entry, and best of luck. I see people with their I-phones at the supermarket and restaurants. It's like they were glued to their ears. The child you focus on is left isolated because the adults are obsessed with their phones. Just wait--the time will come when the little girl will have one and begin to shut her parents out! Very touching description of how the girl feels in her isolation. judi

This is a very thought provoking and hard hitting poem. You have really brought home the worrying problem of isolation do to phone addiction in just eight syllables. How clever. I wish you much luck in the competition. Jen.

Hi Melissa, I liked this 2-4-2 poem a lot. As I understand it, this is about an autistic child. I might be wrong, of course, but that's how I interpret it.
It's a great entry. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

Hi Ulla... you are the second to think of autism, but my subject is about social addiction (a term prescribed to the isolation caused by the use of electronics). I may add something in the notes. Thank you so much.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I will say that never occurred to me. :)))

This sounds to me like a most succinct comment on autism. The one who cannot communicate flanked by devices dedicated to communication - the two cell phones,

Thank you Jim. When I researched it, the phrase was social addiction, and it is becoming very prevalent with families that still have children at home. Truly heartbreaking. Thanks again.

Way too many children suffer from this syndrome of their parents neglecting them while busy on their cell phones.
The picture you chose addresses the issue so well. I feel sorry for all of the children who are isolated from classmates and parents when they ought to be having fun one on one with each of them.
Thanks for sharing this critical issue with all of us.

Oh, how much they miss either not hearing or not being included. Either way, a heartbreaking experience for the child. Sending you my best today as always and my best for the upcoming coming contest, Sally :)) XOs
