We are the owners of our own destiny Mike, we make decisions and rightly or wrongly we take a path and only have ourselves to blame if we hit a brick wall. The sky is the limit when it comes to our imagination and we can make life good or we can fall into the black hole. We write poetry and uncover the truth, push the boundaries and take people on a magical merry go round with our words. Poets can influence, manipulate, soothe and ruffle feathers, your poem is both moving and intuitive, we dig down deep and make a difference, an inspiring write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly :-). I knew I wanted to write this afternoon but had no idea what, so I put on some music and just let my muse go. Thanks for the insightful review :-).

This poem, Tides, leads me to recall Emerson and "Self-Reliance". I looked for the quote about changing one's mind, but it was like looking for particular diamond in a room full of diamonds. Each gem requires I stop and read it. I wanted to reinforce what I feel you were saying in "Tides". Essentially, I may forcefully defend my opinion on a topic today, but, if I change my mind, I will defend that new opinion with the same ferocity.

Thanks Bill :-). I think we sometimes wall ourselves in for our own protection, and in turn risk missing the doors we could be opening. As you say, we can be fierce in our positions, but also enjoy finding new ones!

Your poem is excellent--skillfully and creatively written, expressive, deep, and powerful. The problem--in my humble opinion--with letting go of the old dogma to which we once we shackled ourselves opens the way for that new "wisdom"--which people latch onto and push it, making it the new DOGMA. It gets a bit confusing . . . .

Thank you :-). The real truth, I think, is that there's value in both constancy and change, and the only solution to happiness is figuring out how much of each is worth investing in!

Whenever I read your pieces, I always need to sit back and let the words wash over me so I can absorb it all. "Perspectives are but periscopes' is an amazing line for conveying limits of our way of seeing things. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much :-). I had no idea that line was about to pop out when I was writing the stanza, so I was very happy when it did! I'm thrilled you enjoyed this one :-)

This is an enjoyable read, Mike. I always read through your pieces twice to get an interpretation as true as possible. Your work is always interesting, and your inspiration for most of your work is derived from the music you enjoy.
I love this line, "Perspectives are but pariscopes." There is so much meaning behind those few words alone. Best, JohnC

Thanks, John :-). I have to admit, I was happy when that line pooped out! It could almost stand on its own, I think. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!
