As they say, there are no atheists in the trenches, we all have a need for God but it seems only when we are scared of the end, because we may not have made provision for it. I decided I need Him all the time, and He's most happy to oblige, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Well done

Well written. Good story.
Not sure about Iraq or Afghanistan being a religious war, or your protagonist being religious, but you've covered that in your title.
Best wishes and good luck in the contest.

Whew! The vividly described moment by momment account of fighting is well-done. The text is a nice size. The plot is not rushed but told with painful real moments. Your visual is chilling and real! My brother is a Vietnam vet, and I was stationed behind the Berlin Wall before it was torn down. Your descriptive writing makes me think you too are a vet. You, blind writer has earned my last six. Now, I will vote for you. Blessings!

Thank you. I am a vet. I didn?t expect to do well in the contest but that wasn?t why I wrote this.. This is not the Hollywood "kill kill kill" version that people want to believe. Nobody wants to take ownership of the aftermath of sending our 18-19 year olds off to kill. Needs to be discussed. Thank you to you and your family for serving.

I thought to myself only a vet could describe this piece so emotionally. For me, you are already the winner. Thank you for serving and for writing such a honest entry.

I tried to take the extra m out of moment but wasn't allowed. Sorry for the typo.
-
No worries. The system keeps turning my text blue in the middle of my submissions.

Thank you . Means a lot.

This is terrific. You grab my interest with the first sentence. I don't really know what is happening outside of that fact that there is great danger. And that's great because I'm so darn interested. As I read on it cleared up and the story became more interesting. Excellent writing. A strong story. Enjoyed it!

I don?t expect it to do well in the contest but that isn?t why I wrote it. People want the Hollywood "kill kill kill" version of war. Reality makes them uncomfortable. I all about that if it gets vets help. Appreciate you.

Wow!!! This is one powerful piece of work. The stream of consciousness approach works very effectively, as it puts us in the battle zone with the soldier and in a sense we become him. Very good work.

That is so beautifully written. I really felt every word, just like I was right next to you. Wow! How can someone live through and survive this shit, and still be such an amazing person? Wow

We are all capable of great good and great evil. Funny little trick the universe has played. I think it?s all about choosing the right path.
