I liked this poem... I was checking to see which birds I have in common and which I do not...
I have: Grackles... Which do not look like your little blackbird in the photo; blue jays, for whom I put out peanuts in the shell each morning; woodpeckers, downy and redheaded; (we also have cardinals, finches, thrushes, mockingbirds, ibis, and herons.
We do not get: robins, sparrows, starlings, magpies, (but I used to live in Missouri, where they have them.)

Thank you for your comments and stars. Guess every region has its array of bird residents, too.

Christiecookie ####, I forgot what the numbers were, I like this entry well enough to vote for it if and when I have the chance. Ornithology your minor, perhaps? Are such birds mentioned even in Utah? I am familiar with them in Appalachia.

We do have blackbirds in Utah. But they are not as common as robins. I am a big fan of birds but am not an expert by any means. Thank you much for reading and reviewing.

Your poem was descriptive of all the visitors to your
garden, CC. I enjoyed reading it. I could see each one
due to your great word choices. Yes, nature gave those
critters the ability to survive despite our best attempt to
make the garden presentable to them. I liked the fun ending.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I'm a bird lover, so this poem made me smile. You are right of course, the garden attracts many winged friends and they don't care what it looks like. Thanks for sharing.

An interesting observation here in this Free verse poem about our gardens or yards and how Nature observes her rituals despite our failure to weed or sow 'Robins will still sing/if the lawn is overgrown'

I agree we all need motivation for the yard work. I really enjoyed reading your poem, and the way that you talked about several different birds. I like birds, and just love to watch them or hear them sing when I'm outside if I happen to. The words flowed together greatly, and made this a soothing and easy read. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for your review. My mother is definitely the one who likes gardening most. I am more likely to smile when it is all done, ha.

What a delightful poem about nature and gardens. Love the occasional alliterations also.

You end by pulling the reader back to reality - water your plants!

Good luck with this contest:-)

This poem, Blackbirds Don't Mind, allows that the absence of mankind will not affect the birds negatively. They will flitter and flutter as if we were never here.
