Gone are those days of people reading the newspaper and I remember I was not allowed to read it until my Father had read it first, he hated the paper being crumpled! Your recollections here have great nostalgia attached to them, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This poem is truly a little gem for the prompt about the Good Old Days - such a moment as this is probably gone forever - with digital media being consumed on such a scale - this poem is really an excellent slice of social history -Grandpa and his prism through which he accessed the world - and the little one waiting for the comic section-this poem should make its way to a national archive for future generations to peruse- well done

My dad always started the day off with the sports - never the front page.

This was quite nostalgic, as there are few papers with this many sections and offerings (we get the New York Times, but it's electronic). Your poem took me back to another time.

You've written a sweet poem about the good old days, and I love the way you end it.

Good job, and good luck!

My father, a small businessman, had to read the Business section first, even on his only day off. Many thanks, Pam, for sharing my poem. I am very pleased I could take you back to a happier time.

This reminded me of the summer I spent with my aunt and her first new husband. I would get the paper and read it before he came home. And I never put it back together the correct way. He never said anything to me, but I knew he wanted to. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week.

This is superb, a marvelous entry for this contest, IMHO -- not only is the rhyme and near-rhyme wonderful, but it also evokes such warm feelings and lovely images. (It also reminds me very strongly of just how much I enjoyed that Sunday edition of our local newspaper too -- starting with the comics. *smile*)
Best of luck in the contest!

What a wonderful and enjoyable poem. Thank you for sharing. The rhyming was perfect and the words flowed, making this a delight to read. The memories of grandpa reading the paper, and the way that you expressed those feelings. Beautiful poem.

This is a great entry to "The Good Old Days" contest. The text size is great. It's great you told the poem by using your grand-pa's perspective. You have rich, vivid details about your grandpa. The reader gets to know a bit more about him in each verse/stanza. He sounds like a "salt of the earth" person and a good man. The visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

This is a very well written poem you have penned for the Good Old Days writing prompt. You used very good descriptive words about Grandpa and the newspaper. It makes me think of my Father in Law when we would go to PA and visit. Everybody would have a piece of the paper to look at. Best wishes in the contest. Teri

I remember when the news paper was a coveted thing. The sight of the paperboy was a sight for sore eyes except on the second Friday of every month when he showed up to get paid. Lol. This poem was a pleasant look back at something you rarely see anymore.

I, too, remember those days when the paper was delivered by a boy wearing a stuffed bag over his shoulder. Many thanks for sharing and praising my poem.
