Well said, my friend :) I remember the days when we didn't have to lock our doors. Kids could play outside without worry. I remember when my brother and I were kids, we would be gone for hours, and my parents never worried about us. Today is a different world. We can't even let our children play in the front yard alone.
I miss those good old days. At least I have good memories of a safer world.

Always your fan,
Shana :)

We old folk are so similar. Always reminiscing about the good old days, living in the past. I was raised in a tiny poultry farming community of around four thousand people. The same town now has near on a hundred thousand. Friendliness yielded to growth. In some ways, I think memories paint rose coloured images. I'm really not sure I'd want to go back to the old days. Another brilliant poem Mr. Owen. I see this is an old one. How many poems do you have in your collection, Roy. Do you have a favourite one?

Roy, This is a very well written poem about childhood memories that brings back a lot of memories to me as well. You used great descriptive words and very nice imagery from the art work you chose. thanks for sharing. Blessings, Teri

Where I grew up, we locked our doors, but neighborhoods and society were definitely more friendly and less dangerous. We all have aches in our hearts for simpler times. It's something the younger generations will only be able to read about. Very nicely written. Blessings, Lilly

Yes, sadly those days of human interaction are long gone. These days we communicate with devices and avoid human contact by building invisible fortresses protected by passwords. The milk of human kindness has been replaced by the icy water of selfishness.

You and I, both have such memories. When I tell my sons that every front step in my neighborhood had a note for the milkman with money rolled up in the note and placed inside the neck of the empty milk bottle, and no one stole the money, they are shocked. Plus, the milkman left our order, along with our change, and no one touched that money either. Ohh, for the "Good lo' days". Blessings, Roy.

Thanks for sharing another heart-felt poem, Roy. This one is both sweet and sad. It doesn't seem that long ago when life was as you describe it, but in some ways it seems centuries away. I long for those days too. Bless you.

I really enjoyed this poem. Things have really changed from when we were kids. Fear seems to have taken over and everyone locks their doors. Children don't play outside any mone and I don't think it is healthy. I think maybe kids don't realize what they are missing because they all have their heads stuck on the I-phone and think they are being entertained.

Roy,
You poignant look at better days gone by reminds me of my youth. It was ok to trust people. We lived in a small town, but in summer we could roam from home and never be hurt.

I love the rhyme and inter rhyme of your poem.
Blessings, friend,
Hugs, Cindy

I agree with the sentiment in this lovely poem, Roy. Great job on holding the tension throughout the piece and making excellent points about isolation within our own neighborhoods. Great structure, end rhymes/slant rhymes, and metric flow. I enjoyed reading it.
