Great work!
Wonderful use of the English language. Good color scheme and nice flow.

My favorite line:

a pie we sup to nourish hope,

I liked this a lot. It had a real Shakespeare feel. Thanks for sharing.

An interesting commentary.

Yes, poetry is indeed the dessert of reading. Done well it is rich and fulsome. Also, it is generally a small serving as it sates so well our mental desires. A nice reading poem. The pace is even. The flow is good. It stays on point.

Thanks for sharing.

Michael Bell ~ as I read this last poetry post of November 2, 2022, it is with a broken heart.

Your wife, Naomi has posted that on November 15th, 2022 you were taken from us all ~ in an untimely and sudden death that leaves us shaken.

I messaged you mere weeks ago, apologizing for being behind and promising I'd be by soon to review this post.

You told me not to worry, we had plenty of time.

Ah, my friend! We didn't!

I write this now, to you, where you rest eternally, in "Unfiltered love" and I know you will receive it...

You've always been brilliant, inspiring, warm, encouraging, witty, empathic, generous of heart and spirit...

Did I tell you? Did you know that is how I felt?

In characteristic wisdom and insight you've left us ~ but with this poem...

Words that sear onto my heart and mind as I ask you, please, watch out for me...for all of us...

I can conceive of no consolation for your death.

God knows why he needed you in heaven, now.

I will pray, grieve, and heed your advice, in this exceptional poem:

"...let this verse connect your soul
to anything that makes you whole..."

Not farewell ~
Until we meet again!

I will never forget you!

Karenina

***FS family? Helen has started a multi-author book for all of us to pay tribute to Michael, as we wish.

Today I just wanted to promote his last posted poem and offer it here, in his honor.

In typical fashion I am out of six stars ~ but Michael has every star now, and all of us to keep his memory alive.

To Michael!

--K

Mike, this was sweet. I love the metaphor of the pie. And even in the huge sing-songy rhyme scheme it still ends up brilliantly created when you weave your magic. Weave on, my friend.

Thank you, Michaela :-). I needed a poetic balm for the heavy-going Nano novel, and this came sprouting out while I was reviewing on of Roy Owen's pieces.

Yes an enjoyable read - always interesting to plummet the world of poetry and poets 'A poet's ilk cannot be wrong'- 'ilk' is an appropriate choice of word

I love this form and your final stanza is magical, we write about all sorts of situations in the hope that someone identifies with our words and make that connection from soul to soul, this is why we write, to ruffle feathers, touch with love and open up the wounds when we are in pain, to be human is to connect with each other. Much enjoyed Mike, love Dolly x

Thanks so much, Dolly :-). This was fun to play with, as forms go. I don't know whether it's considered cheating, but I wrote the last stanza first, then used each line to firm its own paragraph.

Mike,
I had a little trouble with the "creed" line, but nonetheless this is an exceptional poem.
Very well-written with a nice rhythm and sound!
Good luck with this one--it's great.
Blessings,
Cindy

I recognize Roy's Rime Tesera poetic form and you crafted it well and gave us much to think about. I especially liked "Unfiltered love is all we need" and the idea that poetry is "a pie we sup to nourish hope."

Thank you, Helen :-). If I think too much about forms like this, I end up not trying them, but if I can write it as a response to a fellow poet, that comes much more naturally. So glad you liked it.

Wow! You wrote a Rime Tessera, most folk won't tackle it but you did, of course that rhyme less last stanza is the key, if that makes sense, you've done it! well done, I got the shock of my life, well done Mike, blessings Roy

Only because I so enjoyed your one, my friend :-). I don't know if it's considered cheating, but I write the final stanza first, trying to keep the lines meaningful in their own right, then built a stanza around each to precede it.

I promise I won?t tell, you?re cleverer than me, why didn?t I think of that? Sheesh. But then there?s a little guile in me too.

This poem, A Poet's Ilk, with its cascading lines coming to a rest in the final stanza, finds the poet informed by all that occurs, whatever is known or unknown, and anything else.
