You've managed to strike an effective balance between description of what's in the image and interpretation of what it could mean. In doing so, you show us the import and beauty of art, and why it's so important to allow ourselves to experience it, and find our own responses.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

-You did a good job with the poem and presentation.
-A very good opening verse describing the setting.
-I like how you relate the scene to the what the viewer sees
based on their experiences. It can be "unconditional love"
or "sadness...like a vise grip." That is a powerful image.
-A very good concluding verse, as well.
-An excellent poem!

A picture can produce thousands of beautiful words from you. Now I see the mother in the picture was quite young, a child bride. It's so shocking. She could be a babysitter, couldn't she? Her dress was too fancy to be a babysitter. It's a complicated situation.

Well done and thought provoking.

Jasmine girl, yes ? our hard wired brains filter what our hearts might be closed to seeing at times.

Great response to the picture challenge! Yes, we can look at that picture, idealize the maternal care or feel a pang of sadness if we haven't experienced it ourselves. I like your careful description of the "heirloom chair."

You did a great job, JLR, with your club poem. I like the style
you chose. Your words flowed smoothly with great imagery
and messages. I liked the way the verses alluded to what the
mother saw and thought. You expressed those well. You were
right about how everyone interprets that same image with
different ideas.
Thanks for participating, Jan

An interesting poem with a open question. The verses contemplate only the most obvious responses. The flow is good. The words soft and caressing like the picture. Like the unfocused glance of the woman the whole is nebulous.

A good read, as much feeling as words.

I love how you write about the duality of viewing a single picture. This one in particular speaks to me as she wanders in her imagination of a long, lost lover from long ago. It also reminds me of the pictures that used to hang on my grandmother's wall. Thank you for representing this as a dual choice of how we experience life.

I do the same thing only with prose. A picture is very literally worth a thousand words. I liked the revelation of each vignette. This was a very cool take on the picture. Gretchen

That is a lovely picture, and your words are perfect for it. What is she looking at? What is she thinking? When you sit by the fire with a child sleeping on your lap, there is nothing more comforting than knowing all is right with your world. But, if it's the other side of the coin, then I hope she can work it out. Very well done!! :)) Sandra xx

The author's words are descriptive, thought provoking, and creative. I like
the words above the title which are so true. I found the poem conveys to
me how a picture can mean something different to each person. The poem
flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome!
Hope you are having a great Sunday!.....Maria
