What a wonderful recognition of your husband's parents (grandparents?)! She must have found learning to cook and care for a house more difficult than she ever admitted, if she grew up with servants. They sound like wonderful people. Best of luck in the Grandparents Contest.

Yes, it was not an easy time when she first arrived, knowing very few people, and having to learn to do household chores as well as cooking. And her husband had a difficult time trying to find suitable work, as his line of work in India did not exist here. They were wonderful people, ablessing to everyone who knew them. Thank you for such a lovely review.

I very much enjoyed reading this piece. It sounds like your grandmother had a gift for cooking. Favorite lines were: All grandparents tell stories. Ours told of exotic places, palaces, temples, wild animals, peacocks strolling in their grounds, and of colourful, noisy, crowded marketplaces, crazy traffic, buffalos walking down village streets. They told us of the moon rising over the Himalayas.
They courageously faced dangers and adventures. Grandpa nearly died from a scorpion bite. Once, while driving in a jeep they saw a tiger lying in the road, fast asleep. What could they do? Toot the horn, of course! The tiger got up slowly, stared at them, then turned and ambled away, back into the jungle.

Very cool story. I liked the set up of ticking the boxes. This was very unique. They sound very interesting and you were killing me with the talk of the food. Never had Indian cuisine but the smells are heavenly. Great response to the prompt. Gretchen

Thank you so much Gretchen for a super review, and your encouraging words! If you have Indian food one day, start with very mild, and build up. It has a lot of flavour even when not much chilli is used.

This is so unique! I love the ticks, almost like a refrain in a poem. What an interesting heritage, Indian snd Scottish. I LOVE Indian food, especially curry, made me want some. I could smell your description. As a matter of fact, all my senses came alive throughout this piece.Exquisitely written. Thank you for sharing.

It sounds like your grandparents were lovely. I never knew either set of my grandparents, but I heard many stories about them. My grandparents on Dad's side came straight from Germany and couldn't speak English. Our original German name was Klute. The register in our county couldn't understand my grandfather and registered them as Kludy. The name stuck, so my maiden name was Kludy. The family name has never been changed back to Klute. Your story is lovely. Best of luck in the contest.
