Oh no. This really is a convoluted tale of crossed wires and lost opportunities. Real life can be hell sometimes. Something in me hopes that Ric will somehow step in before the wedding, but improbabilities are rare, sadly. I don't know whether the 'exceptional' is for the enjoyment you granted me, or for the quality of the writing. Maybe both. Sometimes things just don't work out. I met the girl of my dreams and everything went better than I could have asked for. Unfortunately I did not have much experience at being a boyfriend and I made critical mistakes one after the other. I was kind of hooked on alcohol at the time which she found to be a turnoff. Needless to say, we broke up and I have regretted every since. I have been married for nearly 50 years and I am reasonably happy, but I have never forgotten the one I foolishly let get away.

What a surprising ending. Interesting love story about the one that got away. Poor Ric, now what? Is he going to attend the wedding and speak up and not hold his peace? I guess I will have to wait for the next chapter.

The fact that they didn't have cell phones makes me think that you maybe wrote this a long time ago or it is set in the B.C.P. period. Whatever. This is amazing writing.

No, I didn't write this a long time ago, just wrote the second chapter yesterday, but the events that gave me the idea happened in the 1980s. I probably should have updated it to current times, but then it would seem a little to personal for me. LOL. I just realized that this can't be complete without five more lines which I'm going back to add at the ending. I hope you'll check it out and let me know what you think. If it should be there or not.
