A fine sonnet and I particularly enjoyed the third stanza as you likened the mighty sea to the dominance of Caesar's reign. The sea crashing onto the shore is often so very powerful, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

I enjoyed the visual imagery of the poem. The choice of words is quite effective in conveying the message intended by the author. I like best the last two lines: Oh, watch them as they tower, tumble, race with such stupendous power, grandeur, grace.

You made the wave seem almost Herculean. The word choices were phenomenal. Bombastic. That was awesome. Then you had the powerful water surge transform into soft and powerless foam. This was incredible. Gretchen

You've successfully painted a lot of very vivid imagery with these words. Smooth consistent meter throughout and solid rhymes. This is a well constructed sonnet. Best of luck in your contest.

I really enjoyed this sonnet. The imagery is superb. The figurative language and the alliteration, as well as the personification remind me of what make poetry special.

Great response to the prompt. I love the detailed description of the swirling and crashing surf that ebbs to froth. A well-crafted nature sonnet. Well done.

A beautifully written sonnet with all the qualities that has made this form famous ever since the great Bard himself invented the form in the sixteenth century, beautifully written with the rhyming form of ababcdcdefefgg, and the iambic pentameter, well done, blessings Roy

I love this poem as it gives an excellent description of waves crashing on the shore and uses wonderful imagery. The rhyming is very good and the rhythm is fine throughout. The only change I would have made is to include 'and' before 'grace' in the last line as it seems to me to read better with that in.
Good luck with
Celyn

Thank you so much, Celyn, for your wonderful praise of my sonnet and all those bright stars. Normally I would heed your advice and add that "and," but it would give the line one too many syllables for pentameter.

This is really great!

This part is so well-thought out:

Whence comes that dominance with which they rise
like Caesar's legions marching into Rome
in ceaseless ranks, colossal in their size
until they've crashed, become soft bubbling foam?

I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest!
