What a lovely story! I can see why it won the Christmas story contest. It makes me think of a movie I saw last year. I wish I could remember the name of that movie!
I had one question.... did Lily say "Merry Christmas to you, too," or was there a decoration on the door that said it?
I wasn't sure, from this sentence:
Lily smiles at the beautifully decorated door, saying, "Merry Christmas to you, too."
It would be so sad and yet funny if it had a wreath that actually read that.
