Oh man. I want to try about five recipes in this piece! And this line: "Santa doesn't have much time in the southern hemisphere!" has got to be the funniest one I've read this week! What a drool-worthy submission for this contest. I'm already pondering making the carrot-pineapple-cranberry one RIGHT NOW.

When I first read it I thought you were talking of tripe, which is I believe the belly of a cow. What you've mentioned sounds so much better. The picture was so colorful as well. How could you help but to thank God for the diverse types and colors and flavors of the food that He's so freely given us? Thanks so much for sharing this delightful look into your culture. I hope that you will continue to share different things from Australia, I find it fascinating.

Thank you Tom for a super review. I added a bit to explain what trifle is! Lol. Yes, praise to God for our good food, and the variety and different tastes are wonderful, and should never be taken for granted. Thank you too for your gift of six stars. It's a great honour, and I value it a lot.

Your Christmas meal is quite different from ours. I can't imagine Christmas in the summer. We usually have snow on Christmas, but with global warming, we often do not have a white Christmas.

This sounds delicious, and healthy as well :) Thanks for sharing. I think it would be a great idea if you wrote more often about Australia (your customs, festivities, famous people etc). It would help plenty of us (Northern Hemisphere residents) to expand our horizons.

Dessert is anything goes and assorted gluten free cookies as I am allergic to so many things. If I don't make it, I can't eat it! Holiday bummer.

Yes, we have Fin (12) who needs gluten free, and others with allergies too (nuts, dairy etc.) In general we all work together and contribute different dishes so that there are sufficient options for all those with issues.

I do see you left out the potatoes. So, you will need mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, potatoes au gratin, baked potatoes, and of course french fries. Merry Christmas to all. Terry.

Lol. We do enjoy baked potatoes and baked sweet potato and pumpkin, but if it's a hot day we'll only have salds probably plus a potato bake (au gratin), as that is a family favourite. French fries for Christmas? Never! Thanks for your wonderful review.

Tamales are a Mexican tradition for Christmas eve. Mexican heritage has a large influence in Texas.
