Hi Heather,
This is a heartfelt and well formatted poem about lost love and the grief and doubt that follows the break up. At the end it could be that she found earthly love again or maybe divine love.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Happy Holidays.
Joan

A sad poem with a sad ending that had me thinking she was suicidal. Beautifully poignant artwork and free verse Heather, full of emotion. Good luck in the contest, cheers

She wasn't suicidal, she loved life, but had a mental illness her partner couldn't deal with, so he chose the easy way out.
    Thanks for reading. xxx

Wonderful presentation and poem. The painting is captivating. Lovely imagery and sad poem.

Unfortunately. Im an expert of failed relationships. My men picker is broken. LoL

Now I'm happy to be single.

Well, at least you can laugh at the situation, which can't be said for everybody. It's definitely better to be single than in an unhappy relationship.
    Thanks for reading.x

My favourite stanza is this one:

you know your pain
pushed him away.
your sighs
drew holes
in his affection.

These words alone carry your poem and the meaning is clear here. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to failed relationships. This is a deep and meaningful write Heather and I loved your understanding of the heart here.

Love Dolly x

Wow!
A stunning poem and perfect image choice.
The style seems perfect for the story as it unfolds to capture and hold my attention right to the end.

I love "straw hair and sky eyes" instead of blonde and blue.

Talk of golden rainbows and promised lands cause me to think that there is more to this poem than a broken relationship. But perhaps I misunderstand.

Regardless, it reads beautifully and everything from the image to the centered font to the background color give it a lovely expression.

Glad to see you writing and posting again!

Pam

It will be just for one week. I'm on holiday and trying to make the most of it. But I'll be back when my Christmas holidays start.
And you're right. It's a broken relationship, but it broke down because she was mentally ill and he was not selfless enough to stay with her. However, she's resilient and will achieve whatever goals she sets for herself.
    Thanks for reading. x

Such a sad, sad poem Maria. But beautifully scribed as a really a ballad should be, this is language rich, I would to read it in Spanish, such a dramatic language, although this is superb, well done, blessings Roy

I wouldn't be able to write it in Spanish, Roy. My Spanish nowadays is very limited even though it's my mother tongue because I've been using English most of my life and most of the time.
    Thanks for reading.

A heartfelt analysis of unrequited love. The poem has an elegaic quality but ends on a positive note. The form and 'shape' of the poem with its changing forms adds to the note of loss and uncertainty.

I believe firmly, I have to, that anyone can overcome anything. It's all a question of fear and desperation. To me your poem shows quiet determination. Follow your narratator. (S)he is wise. Kate xx

A powerful poem of reassurance. I liked the "iris smile" and "the heather
under your feet
and the clouds
above your fuzzy mind."
This has elements all your favorite things. But the "golden rainbow" puzzles me. I hope it's symbolic of a happy future and not of death.

Happy future. Achieving her dreams. I'm feeling quite well at the moment anyway. I do hope it lasts. I finally feel like myself after two tough years.

Thanks so much, Helen. So do I. Now I have to cross my fingers for it to last and do everything in my power to stay positive.
    Sending hugs.

I hope it lasts, too! But now that you have overcome, you know you will be victorious again because you're stronger now.

And it's not the first time. My life has always been like this, but I wasn't diagnosed till I was 50. At least now I have an explanation. Besides, I think my new psychologist is helping a lot. I've always been very reticent (I didn't believe in therapy) and although I'd tried in the past I had never established a connection with the therapists. This girl is different though, even though she's the same age as my son! Thanks for caring.

I'm glad you found a good psychologist. They are hard to find.
