Thank you for the notes, it has been a while "sorry" I am having a few ups and downs and need to pick my times for longer works, (nothing serious), the way you keep the reader involved and intrigued is excellent, the twists and uncertainty in the characters keeps me wanting more, very well written, catch up soon****kahpot

Whew. So glad I handed that six over in chapter one. Go figure! It's Tuesday and it was my last one!

(Mini-rant...We really need a personal countdown "tally."---rant abbreviated!)

This chapter ignited (see what I did there?) a sense of mayhem and urgency, with an infusion of mystery... (Did he hear his mother? Is she calling from beyond?)

Lev's numbing calm in this crisis speaks to his conditoning in a brutal penal system. No time for a " Baby Soldier" to do a anything but scramble for survival.

It's not lost on me you posted this on Dec. 4th.

My birthday!

Makes perfect sense, John.

Your writing is always a gift.

On to chapter three!

Your mini rant is noted! To be honest, I haven't yet figured out why I put her voice in the middle of that mayhem. So, I'm looking forward to that part myself. Haha! I think I sang to you on your Birthday, lol. I spared you the sound, however. So, that should be your gift! LOL. Thank you, Karenina, you're the best.

You did! Perfection! (Of course I'm tone deaf, so... )

I live, as a writer and voracious reader, for these times when the characters take over control of the pen!

Let it stew... Mom's voice will explain it all!

Good idea to post the first part for those of us who didn't read the first post so we got the whole post. This is a grim situation but I know you will get Lev out of the horrors of his terrible childhood in a prison.

Thank you, Helen. I'm so happy you're following. Yes, I tend to write a bit on the dark side, possibly at the risk of losing some readers. But there are bright spots throughout. Thanks again. I'm always appreciative!

Wow, you've got your brain working like a chainsaw now, zipping alone with brother John's precision, not that I can remember it doing anything else. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, my friend. I had to gas the OLD muse up again, but, yes, I think I have it buzzin.' Thank you, Ric! I'm happy you're following me, but then again I always am.

This was an intense chapter, John. Your words were well thought
out and descriptive. I could feel the terror Lev must've been in
trying to find a way out of the locked room. All the actions were
well-developed and left readers in a quandary as to what may be
happening in the future.
I look forward to the next chapter, Jan

This is a shocking and brutal story. Through the years I have heard of the many atrocities committed in Russia, and worse in their prisons.
15 years to life for petty theft, when the leaders are stealing millions from the people.
I was glad to read the story again, the second reading helped me to understand and appreciate what happened.
I have never experienced the dragon, writer's block, but I have experienced the inability to write a story in the manner in which I wanted to express my thoughts. Sentences read like they were retrieved from a can of Alpo dog food.
I am happy to hear you have slain the dragon.

John, your prose never disappoints. Your characters are stark. You describe only enough for the reader to get a clear picture of them. The rest is picked up through conversation snippets. You've created a great deal of tension over Lev an his mother and left us wondering if she is dead and if and how Lev will be rescued from the burning building. A marvelous job, John.

Thank you, Jay! I hope they're not too stark, as some would peg my characterization style as being one-dimensional. Nonetheless, it's the way I've always plated my characters, and at my age taking a hard right onto Protocol Street (at the last moment) would surely cause an accident, lol. Anyway, it always means much to me to have you review and follow, my friend. Much respect! JohnC

I think you have definitely recovered from your block. This is a very creative approach to telling your story--through the book of the woman and through entries in the book. Very well done.

Thank you. I did recap. A very gripping story, and told well. I;m already looking forward to the next part.

Typos: "voices" (not "voices' " (does not need an apostrophe for a plural) "hand's" should be "hands" (plural, no apostrophe)

John, No doubt that you are over your writer's block. This kept my interest from beginning to end as it is so well done. It's so very well written. It appears that Lev's mother is unable to escape the blaze.
Best wishes,
Mary
