Oh, how I hate crooked cops! Now he's helping the biggest crook, it won't end as he would like it to, one day he'll end up on the slab!

That was a sad, but lovely story about Lance and his mother and the church. No he couldn't take the jewels, he's a good guy, and now Bennie knows his story, perhaps he might change?????? I hope so. But, we still have those goons to worry about! Another excellent chapter!!! Love you lots xxx Sandra xx

I too hope Officer Smythe learns that taking an oath to protect does not mean being friends with a gangster and being crooked himself.
Glad you enjoyed the emotional story told by Lance. Maybe it might give Bennie something to think about....

So the cops now have the ring. Poor guys, there is always something brewing. You did a great job as always, and I am enjoying the read. Shirley

Thanks again Shirley. I wonder if Lance and Bennie will complete their trip or will Mason and Paddy stop them... or worse yet Costello's men?

Interesting backstory on the relationship between Lance and Bennie. It sounds like these guys are in huge trouble from several others out to get the diamonds. Too bad Bennie gave away so much information in his phone message. Blessings.

Yes, the phone message is going to change the outlook of several people's future... hopefully it will work out in the end, but one never knows.

So, it looks like Peter Costello has a few cops in his pocket so to speak, and will report on Bennie and his friend Lance's whereabouts, and I wonder how he knows. Of course with the father Rudy disabled from the beating, what can they do? Beautifully written, blessings Roy

You're back to cranking these chapters out whether around Rockport or down in North Carolina, and I'm enjoying set your characters are taking. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I have returned from North Carolina to the dreary atmosphere of Rockford, Illinois. Writing and losing myself in my characters affords me an avenue of escape from my own reality. Sharing it and seeing that others enjoy my writing adds a special sunshine to my day. And YOUR THOUGHTS always make me smile.

You sure have a lot of interesting characters in this story. You handle them in a wonderful manner, and I never feel lost when you change from one to the other. Looking forward to the next chapter.

My characters are my way of connecting the reader to all sides of the story - good and bad. I am thrilled that you see and can follow each of them. Thank you so much.

Wow! This chapter was filled with a lot of new information. You have plots and sub-plots and unexpected connections between unlikely characters. Lance and Bennie are not blood cousins. The O'Haras may have paid for Lance's education. Costello knows where Lance and Bennie are headed, but Mason and Paddy are on their trail. Still action packed.

So, not really cousins, and Lance wants to be honest and law-abiding and his background shows why he has this integrity. A shame about the greedy and corrupt policeman Smythe, blabbing everything for money. Now, how is this all going to work out re Elizabeth and Cooper? Looking forward to the next.

That's just awful that someone in the police force would be helping a mob boss but I'm sure that happened in the past as there are stories back in the old days in large cities, and maybe still happens.
I liked the confession that Lance gave and maybe that will help Bennie make the right decision but now his message will keep more people trailing the two. Hope someone will alert Hank and Emmy!

Yes, it is sad to know that someone who has sworn to uphold the laws and protect the people can sink so low as to satisfy their own desires and put everything aside. The story twists and turns!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read. I know you have your hands full at the moment.
