John, I'm so pleased I stopped by for the read. The picture alone tells so much! I see joy in the faces and playfulness and to think the backdrop of one of great unrest. I enjoyed the repetition of "alone". I can imagine it would have felt isolating and foreign to embark on such a significant move, enlisting in the defence force with so many unknowns before you. Isn't it funny that something like hair can be the thing that unifies or finds trust? The way too that children's innocence is just so pure and joy filled. God indeed uses the little ones and little things and they often have the most profound outlook. Loved your writing. Thank you for your service (I'm an Aussie) but I thank you for the part you played, for stepping out even alone.

Thank you, Karyn. I too am pleased that you stopped my little post. Your review is more eloquent than the post itself and touches the very heart of my story. I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Thank you so much for your sweet review.

Some people appear uncomfortable round children, some people seem to draw children to them. I believe that children can sense people who are comfortable around them and welcome their company. I also believe that God blesses those who love children.

I believe you are right. If we could see each other through the eyes of a child, we would be a much better world. Thank you for your review and thought provoking words.

My brother was stationed in Viet Nam too. He felt sorry for some of the kids trapped in a war, not of their making. Your story is beautiful and well-executed. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a happy, positive story. Children do add happiness to our lives as you demonstrate in your words. A good feeling comes from reading your story which needs to be read by everyone.

Your story (or poem?) was very moving. Children are curious by nature and never mean to offend. I am glad you were no longer alone. Thank you so much for sharing your experience here, and best wishes to you.

Kids can look into your heart and see if you're a good person or not. You don't have to speak the language to share the love. What a wonderfully written story. I wish I had a six for you.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Beautiful! Amen to those words. Children are such unconditional gifts to the world. I am assuming that you adopted some of the children. Good for you.
The greatest gift. Thank you for sharing. Love the story.
God Bless

Sorry to say, adoption was not possible in the time I spent in Vietnam. I would've if I could've. Thank you for your review. God bless you, as well.

I agree that children are an incredible blessing, in fact I watched a documentary were it pointed out that children more or less play exactly the same games all over the world, how can we be so blind as to think that colour of skin, shape of eye, lack of education makes them lesser than anyone else, we are all equal in the eyes of God, beautifully written John, blessings Roy

Thanks, my friend. That's the most important thing I learned in Vietnam. Except for language barriers, people are pretty much the same all over the world. They're just subject to different political systems, which greatly affect their lives Thank you for your review. John

I assume the picture is of you with Vietnamese children. Thank you for your service - it was a harsh war for everyone concerned.

You've told your story in a unique way, and I like that you end a story about war with the fact that children are the same everywhere and even under unfair and terrible circumstances.

Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Pam. Your assumption is correct. I don't have many photos of my Vietnam experience because it was not one of my favorite times. But this photo especially is my favorite because it brings back fond memories...even during difficult circumstances. Thank you for your review.
