This deserves a six star from me, but I'm out, I'm sorry.

Honestly, it wasn't till the last line that I started to cry. And i am not ashamed.

Your nephew deserves a medal for giving three other youngster a chance!

May God bless. John

John, thanks for the very compassionate words for my Travis poem. It was the only thing that I could name for my Christmas Bonus Post, and while writing it I realized what a bonus it was!! The virtual six means as much! Thanks my dear friend !

I'm sorry for your losses. Another comfort you can take away from is it he lives on in the organs he donated. I don't know if you have read any of Dr. Ricky's work but he went through the same thing with his son.

Oh Pam. I love the holidays, but a dark cloud passes over on the week of the anniversary every year. Actually today is the 7 year anniversary of Travis's death. On the 15th will be Denny's and he too was killed in a tragic crash; a snowstorm that he was driving in, on the freeway when the visibility was gone, and he drove head on into a tow truck that was pulling a vehicle out of the ditch. Nobody else was hurt, thank God. However it snapped and broke his neck. But the state trooper said that he said not to worry, that he heard our mother's voice calling him and he was going home to be with her. Those words were somewhat hard to hear, but still comforting.
Thank you my lovely friend for your sweet and compassionate words tor Travis's poem. I truly appreciate it, especially today.

You are very welcome, Debi. These things are so hard to write, but you have a lovely way with words. I hope that as you write them, it helps ease the pain. Anniversaries such as these are hard enough, but before holidays makes it more so. Even though the words from the policeman were hard to here, it's also amazing your brother had the presence of mind to say them, and that they were relayed to you. The least we can do here is share compassion and caring. I am glad you are here to share and have many shoulders to lean on.

I guess they are together in heaven now. We never know the why, but god holds them in his arms. You still grieve on the anniversary of their passing. Such a sad, sad time at Christmas. Still, they watch over you, love you and will see you again. K xx

A very sad story but with a poignant life-giving ending for other families. Beautifully presented poem Debi, about a family who put their arms around each other in strength and love. Best wishes to all of you, and thank you for sharing.

What a precious end to your story. I'm so sorry for your loss of both brother and nephew. It's good that by his generosity a part of him continues to live.

I'm sorry that you had to experience a loss such as that, Debi. I was glad to see that Travis was involved in organ donation. I am a great believer in that program. Have a merry Christmas and happy new year.

A very moving piece, where the writer gently reminds readers to appreciate life, that people live on not only through memory but also from how they had and continue to have impact on people, long after they have gone.
-The writer has done great job of recounting a tragic event, what the person meant and how a family and community continues to honour his memory and good deeds.

Beautifully crafted.
