The will of some people is so strong that even after their death some aspects of their personality remains with those nearest to them in life may manifest itself in some way. The things you believe you heard him say after he passed away, are very likely things he would have said were he still alive and able to say them.

Thank you. I think you are right. I know I heard him that night, and the dog did too. He lasped into a coma before he could let us know how he felt and had to get that last work in.

This is touching and heartfelt. I love Des and how he refused to face death because he was too mean and ornery to accept his own passing. He was everything my father was and more besides. I love the moving tribute to your husband and if I had any more sixes I would surely give you one. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story about Des and his refusal to face death.

Thank you. Des was extremely controlling and strong willed. There is no doubt in my mind that he was there that night. I never heard him as clear again, but he made his presense known in various ways.

Sad but funny - always a poignant mix. I love your accepting nature but I am glad you have your animals to keep you company. Yes, we men can be very stubborn with our health. When my father was in hospital with untreatable lung cancer he was still making holiday plans for himself and my mother. He passed that night. I learnt from that and now see the doctor regularly.
Have a lovely Christmas xx

Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you, too. I have had people say it was my imagination, but I know what I heard. Des never returned that strong again, but I could sense his presence now and then.

I found this interesting and fascinating. Interesting in that you told so much about Des being strong willed and stubborn . I wonder if his refusal to accept his fate was out of pure fear.
Fascinating because I wonder if his strong personality had to have the last say.
Well done.
Best wishes
Mary

Thank you. Des was extremely stubborn and strong willed. In life, he always had to have the last word, so death would not stop him from doing it again.

Love your humor even while sharing some hair-raising story. And it says a lot about your patient personality to get along with someone who's so stubborn that he has to yell from across the great divide!! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you. Des was a difficult person to live with, but I managed. He had few friends because of his attitude. Yet, his guts and determination made him a great businessman, and later, a dairy farmer.

I come out of this reading feeling a bit like I know Des. The picture and your words fit well together. Gives the feeling of someone who would will the world to be as he desired. The flow of the piece is good. The images are clear. The ending is delivered with a touch of humor.

Thanks for a good read.

Thank you. If you knew Des, then you would understand that he must always have the last word. He lasped into a coma before he could deliver his last comments. It scared me at the time but I wasn't too surprised.

Wow.That's a totally amazing story and I believe every word. My husband died of lung cancer from smoking and there have been many times since he passed that the smell of cigarette smoke envelopes me. I would have chosen a different sign he was there, but it's unmistakable.

Thank you. Des only made himself known that once, but I sense his presence at times. I'm glad Des didn't smoke.

You are welcome. I guess if he was just going to continue complaining about being dead, once is enough.

This was a delightful story--also, a delightful read. And to think this really happened is rather spooky. I hate it when dogs stare at things that are not there, at least not there for humans to see. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. Des only made himself known that one time, but I have seen the dog and cats staring intently one spot sometimes. Thanks for the six stars, I appreciate them.

Author,
Your touching story about your husband is exceptional. I'm sorry you lost him.

When my mom died, for about a month, I kept seeing her. (Was it imagination or spiritual? I'm still not sure. I know that right after she died, my dog looked up above my head as though someone were there.

Your story gives people a chance to decide if spirits visit after death. I'm still not sure, but if it is true, I'm glad my mom chose me to appear to.

Blessings and good luck with your work,
Cindy

Thank you. I'm still not sure either, but I do know I heard his voice that night, and the dog did too. I have never heard or seen him again. It scared me a little at the time, but I wasn't surprised he had to get the last word in. It was his nature. Thank you for the six stars.

You were so kind in reading Sc. 4 in my musical, that I thought it was time for me to take a look at your latest offering. And wow! I'm glad I did! I read it with the hair standing up on the back of my neck. There would be skeptics who'd say you were waking from a shockingly realistic dream, and thought you heard Des. But I don't believe them for a minute. There are mysteries we are wrong to dismiss as unscientific hokum. Thank you for posting this. And I also thank you for supporting my efforts.

Have a blessed Christmas season.

Jay

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I know it wasn't a dream. I definitely heard him, and he was angry. The dog heard him too, which is what really confirmed it was real.
