This is so true, but so out of character for you, Bill. Your poem is certainly one that I can relate to at this time. I doubt any of my neighbors know the drama going on in my families lives at this time.
"a morning yawn inhales a world
darker, shocked, and sadder still."
Not everyone has the Christmas Spirit now. Well done. Nancy:)

This is a hard hitting write Bill and so very impactful as the chaos outside with life or death emotional situations cannot always be shut out. No one knows what happens behind closed doors in other people's homes, our eyes are often closed, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Wow this was a downer, but made you think about all the things happening around we are not very aware of. Good job. Merry Christmas and stay healthy in the new year.

You give the reader much to think about concerning the problems of those around him. If we only knew of the things so many others are having, we would not even be able to sleep.

Bill, stop it right now! You keep destroying the image I have of you. A reprobate, old veteran scarred by the memory of too many battles with drink and unseen enemies. A sometimes silly guy who thumbs his nose at conventual society. Just how many sides do you possess? You always seem to come up with yet another surprise. I cannot keep up. One thing I do not recall about you ever, You have never been boring.

Thanks, nomi. Just had to shake this sad note out so I can get back to destroying Aesop's Fables.

Okay. When you write something serious, you scare me. Serious Bill is not someone I am familiar with. You gotta give me a heads up when you decide to let this guy out of the tower.

If I can remember, I will IM you with a frown face before anything maudlin is posted.

    Cool. That'll work.

This poem successfully explores the 'small' personal tragedies which occur daily in their millions, all over the world! Most go unnoticed by society as
a whole. The regular form and rhyming scheme have the effect of making this all too inevitable.

There is plenty to make us sad if we allow our minds to go there. It fact, it is hard not to go there if you turn on the news or get on social media sites and read all the negative news. Even Fanstory tears at our heartstrings when we learn for those we feel we know being taken away without much of a warning. It is that season of the year when we spend more time inside particularly when the skys are grey and dripping moisture. I feel a bit sad myself today.

Sorry to add on. I saw the Mike had passed away suddenly and I think I just needed to siphon off the blues.

I know, that was a shocker for all of us. He was so young.
