You have used some good onomatopoetic words. It will bring the reader down the good memories path. Many will agree with your sentiments. It certainly was a different time. Well expressed.

It is sad, indeed. I feel like that when my husband has to work Christmas eve and Christmas day. But he has no choice. We celebrate together when we can. And tough as it is, we do it. Thought provoking poem. Gretchen

Your poignant descriptions made me long for the carefree days when we weren't afraid we might be shot while we were out shopping, or everyone was unrecognizable beneath a mask. Your poem really is lovely.

This free verse, Feeling a Sense of Loss, defines the word nostalgia. So much fills up our childhood, when big events destroy the routine and spark joy and fellowship throughout the community. As kids we see more of the fun end and less of the production, making our memories more sweet. Good times.

A very nostalgic poem, and written well. A yearning for the times past, and the associated good memories are particularly prominent at such times of celebration as Christmas. Where, why and when did all these things start to unravel?
Best wishes
Wendy

I really enjoyed this poem. It is a sad thing to contemplate these days, but so much of what made our childhoods great and special have been replaced by things to make us fearful and cautious. Still, your words and the picture reminded me of all the good times and the importance of gratitude and family and love. Traditions are still alive, fortunately, and we can still celebrate what is good and kind and beautiful in life.

One question for you... in line seven, did you mean "baubles and beads?"

Well done. You have written a most thought-provoking poem. I enjoyed it. MM

There seems to be a lot of sadness this year on FanStory and in our world at present. I would have to agree that we have lost a lot. Yet hope is the essence of Christmas as Jesus was born in a very trying time. King Herod out to death every child u dear two trying to kill Him. Mary, Joseph and Jesus fled to Egypt for a while to protect Jesus from Herod's decree.

We will always have the Christ of Christmas. The gift off Him will never be taken away. Impossible! Sending you my best today as always and blessings for Christmas,
Sal XOs

Your words, like old-fashioned Christmas cards, are filled with nostalgia for the way things were. Pausing long enough to ponder this may bring about a return to the importance of little things. Your poetry prompts us all to keep Christmas simple and sacred.

I hear in your poem a sense of loss and yearning for traditions of old which focused on gratitude, generosity, family and community. I too reflect that some of the stress we experience around Christmas is present buying and trying to find something for kids and families who have absolutely everything they need. The joy of giving out of the small blessings and mercies we have to give to another what they may need is lost in consumerism as we all have so much - yet those who do not, are sadly forgotten. Christmas may look different all over the world and our Christmas in hot Aus will never look like the scene depicted but I would love a greater sense of family, community and giving from our overflow to those who have none. I appreciate your writing!
