Your new lyrics sounded really great as I sang along. Cynical and dark, but fun nonetheless.

Sending you my best today as always and my very best for the upcoming contest. (Thank you also for the video.) Blessings,
Sally :))

I think it has an abstract expressionist feel, capturing the feeling of loss we get when confronted with depression or anxiety or death or pain. The emptiness keeps underscoring each stanza and its portraits of despairing moments in life. estory

great take on this classic song I loved the following

With troubled thoughts I drift soul-jaded
Through halls where sound has faded
Under halos of the moonlight
I clutch my cloak around me in the night
Then my ears are pierced by the scream of a dying child
The echoes pile
Around the shades of empty

This is one of my favourite songs and brings back lots of memories for me. Your version has a similar sombre theme and I enjoyed your parody here, love Dolly x

I am a huge S&G fan and you've done a knock down drag out super job of rewriting the lyrics and creating an entire updated version of the somehow profound sadness I felt when I listened to this as a much younger person.

"Seize my hand that I might feel you
Let me understand the real you"

Who hasn't been THERE?

Wow.

I think you've written some superb lyrics, you say they don't mean anything, but if you read the book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament you'll see what I mean. It's true that life has little meaning to it, but that's not quite true, just the way we live it has no meaning, beautifully written, blessings Roy
Typo a (rewirt) rewrite (in the title)

Thank you. I just didn't want anyone to be upset if they didn't understand what I was trying to say. I appreciate a great review.

What a fabulous song to rewrite! Yes the melody is truly haunting, beautiful and ebbs and flows. You know, the whole time I was reading I thought each of your lines were sheer brilliance in metaphor and description and emotion and when I read your notes at the end about not really making sense it was funny because, I can't tell you exactly what you wrote about but it was so deep and sincere that the whole time I felt a deep connection and understanding. Almost as though the emotional connection and tone was what created the understanding for the reader. Clearly there is a sense of foreboding at a troubled world, struggle to be silent or wanting to speak out and yet feeling helpless or empty. I think this fabulous for its mystery, tone and expression.

The original song and tune are very well known. It is however helpful to have a recording to compare. The chorus is well done. There is an overall sad, elegiac tone.

I really loved the original song, but this re-write was beautiful, as well. I felt it so much. "Shades of empty" was a haunting phrase. Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

You did an awesome job with your contest entry, Mystery
Author. First of all, the picture was a perfect pairing--it's
haunting like the original song and your re-write. I remember
the song well. I played it with the volume down low and read
your poem as it played. Your words flowed smoothly to the
beat. I liked the word choices, the rhymes, and the message. I
believed each person would interpret the original and now yours
as they fit in their lives.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

I love your review comments. I'm so pleased you liked the picture I chose, and felt the re-write was haunting. I always loved the song and found it mysterious. It was a fun contest. I hope there will be more like this. :)
