This is an interesting part of your autobiography. It is not fun to be abroad and sick. Tried that out in Venice and was miserable. Having read most of your stories, I understand you fearing something was going wrong at home. You sure had your trials with your supposedly grown-up children. I had a lot of adventures with mine also.

Thank you Carol, I am assuming something must be going wrong because when I'm home something ususally is, and I know my husband well enough to if there was he wouldn't tell me, knowing I'm too far away to do anything about it. I'm likely letting my imagination spoil my enjoyment of the trip. Of course the cold isn't helping either. :LOL.

"Germs spread fast in a crowd." Hopefully, they did not ruin the remainder of your journey.

The seat rotation a good idea.

Sure many people did not know what a bidet was or what they were for.

Lots of times in foreign countries best not to drink the local water.

Vivid description of the hill towns you saw along the way.

I don't know why it always seems to happen, but every time I go on a trip, I end up with a cold. Probably because I'm around too many people. And that was before Covid. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

That you Ric. The cold usually happens on the plane going home. I just got it earlier that time.

You're so right. We usually get the cold on the way home and it lingers for two weeks. LOL. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Nothing worse than having a cold when on a long trip. I love the idea of rotating seats on the bus. That's so fair. I had forgotten about the toilets being a mystery when it came time to flush. And yes, I remember the endless clothes lines. Thanks, Beth, for bringing back these wonderful memories.

As I think back to our travel days in Europe while living in Germany, I don't remember hardly any elevators. It seems they were very few and far between. LOL Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed reading.

Good morning, Beth

Another enjoyed journey traveling with you through Italy, a place I've dreamed of seeing. It's too bad you were ill, but it appears as always you made the best of the situation. Beautiful!

Smiles, Carol

Thank you Carol. I didn't enjoy being there anyway for some reason I can seem to forget I wasn't feeling my best.

The daily rotation of seats on the bus - I can just hear people saying they don't remember where they sat last and arguing over where they were going to sit next.

It's so sad that a place as special as Naples can't be visited because of crime.

Your descriptions of the hill towns you drove past puts the reader right there with you.

In the next to the last paragraph you write, ". . . but I knew nothing ever ran that smoothly in our household." I had to write, based on some of your previous stories:-)

The only critique I have is the line spacing at the very beginning - it's closer together than the rest of the story and makes for a little harder reading.

Have a nice holiday if I don't hear from you again beforehand.

Pam

Thank you Pam, As to what is going on with the spacing, I've worked hours trying to figure that one out. Everything is exactly the same in the editing stage but when I take it out of editing spacing on certain paragraphs change and not always the same ones. I wish I had answers. I can't find a way to control the spacing.
If you know a way, let me know.

I don't know if it will work, but I would delete everything in the post (text) and then copy and paste from original document again.

It's not the end of the world if it stays that way. But I know how frustrating it can be.

Amazing that you recall such stunning detail! Sucks that you got a sore throat -- but given the vivid descriptions, seems you were still able to enjoy the day. I wonder what drama will await your return!

Thank you Elizabeth. The sore throat didn't last look. But I do remember it. Too back your can't just lose the bad and think only of the good things, but my memory doesn't work that was.

Florence sounds magnificent. I have had relatives who have visited Italy. I'm sure that they loved the scenery, too. Florence, Italy has housed museums, palaces, and churches; some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. Your story is a wonderful adventure.

Thank you Rosemary. Yes, there is a lot to see in Florence. Art treasures we've heard of all our lives are there and there are churches and museums everywhere.
