Hi Verna,
This poem chooses words well to remind us of the joy of Christmas that should stay with us despite how Christmas is more commercialized every year. This reminds me of my childhood. My dad also loved Christmas, except unraveling Christmas lights.

Thank you so much, Joan, for your review. I'm glad I have memories of those early Christmases. I tried to make it as much like that, considering the times are different, as possible for my family, and I see my kids duplicating that for theirs. Christmas is, indeed, a family time to be together with all the joys that it represents, especially love and hope.

What a beautiful piece of lovely writing you have shared with us, Verna, reminds me so much of my childhood days, when my Mom, and Granny cooked all the goodies, and the songs all of us sang together.
There wasn't so many gifts, and things, but it was really a very happy family time.

What a beautiful piece of lovely writing you have shared with us, Verna, reminds me so much of my childhood days, when my Mom, and Granny cooked all the goodies, and the songs all of us sang together.

So lovely that your family made Christmas so special when you were a child. It provides wonderful memories of love and happiness, worth more than anything.
You have repeated "have" in the second last and last lines. Could one be changed? Otherwise a very beautiful poem filled with nostalgia.

This is so beautiful and nostalgic for me. As if we were born of the same family. From the tree, smells of Christmas baking, mothers sweet voice singing to father being a big kid himself, as I guess both my parents were & probably why I am such a kid at heart at Christmas and all year long.......Your lovely photo choice was such an added plus! The perfect nostalgic poem all around! Thanks Verna for the big smile that brought me back to my younger days! Merry Christmas my awesome friend!

This is a very nice free verse poem that looks back on fond childhood memories of Christmas. I do wonder, if times were simpler back then because the writer was a child and not an adult. POV means everything.

Thank you very much for your review. I agree that the POV makes a difference, but we surely didn't have to worry about things that many kids worry about today.

It sounds like wonderful memories of Christmas you have with such a wonderful-sounding family. You may have been of modest means, but you certainly were rich with the joys of a loving family and great traditions at Christmas time. This was a very well-written, rhyming poem that flowed with excellent cadence.
