Nomi,
This honest, inspiring account of Black persons' struggle is sad, yet inspiring.
My parents told me of the way Black men were treated after Fighting in world war 2. It is a shameful part of our history.
Great work, Nolan.
Good luck with all you write.
Blessings friend,
Cindy

"I Still Rise" is an excellent tribute to soldiers of color who have suffered mistreatment. Sadly, there are still people today who do the appreciate the contributions of those of color who have served our nation.
Well done.
Blessings

What a beautiful poem. You outlined the zest and love soldiers have for their country. They are heroes in the front and most respected by our people at home.
Excellent piece of writing. Thank you fir sharing this with us.

I think there should be no reason for hate in this world. But not everyone thinks the same. I don't pay attention to negative people. Excellent work! No grammatical errors. Thank you for sharing!

Your poem is powerful and well written....I understand that racism does exist, but it doesn't apply to everyone. I thank all soldiers for thier service regardless of color, I just want you to know that not everyone hates that way. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, and I am well aware. I have a very large group of close friends that run the gamut of age, gender, marital status, you name it. I am comfortable and at home with all of them.

Hi Nomi,
Truly something that most people don't think about. We think of the soldiers and their difficulties in coming home in general. They have so much to deal with. But I would have hated to have been a Japanese American during WWII. But can you imagine serving as a Japanese American during that time possibly having been in the service for a decade or more, then suddenly, poof, we're at war with Japan, and your race is the enemy. You're looked at differently by your subordinates. Makes me wonder what the military did with those men.
You've made me think, and for this you get a 6 from me. I like people who make me consider things I haven't stopped to consider in ways I hadn't thought of before.
Happy New Year!
Susan :)

There were more Japanese Medal of Honor winners than just about any other group of soldiers from WWII. American Indians used their native language to confuse German and Japanese soldiers who were educated in the US and thereby spoke English very well. The Tuskegee Airmen, all black pilots, never lost a bomber they were assigned to protect. There were many participants who contributed to victory. Sadly the only ones to completely benefit were the whites. Go figure.

This is a lovely poem. The flow of this piece is good, and I love the message of it. Soldiers of color definitely deserve recognition. I come from a military background, so I understand and appreciate this very much. Great job!

Thank you very much. Although I have some measure of grievance, this was not an axe grinding poem.

Excellent work though it made me feel sad. Making me feel is what makes it excellent. It too easy to forget those that served after the fighting is over. I thought that trend was reversing but as you illustrate, sadly it has not. Good job. Rickie

You know I sympathize. I was raised by a bigot that made Archie Bunker look like Mother Teresa. Because I hated him, I figured that the things he said were not true. In college, I had black teammates playing baseball, which didn't matter. The colors that matter in baseball: the home team usually wears white, and the visitors wear gray. All three of my brothers and my son married Latina women, and NOBODY cared because my dad was dead. If had been alive, that would have killed him. Hahaha. Well done.

When we allow hatred for Gods creation to lead and motivate us, we sign our own one way ticket to hell.
