They may be my favorite bird, more dynamic than a robin, and that blue stands alone in all the aviators I have witnessed. Sure a male peacock has a wider variety but royal blue #2 stands alone for me.

I like them too. Thank you Tom!

This is a unique and well rhymed nonet perfectly formed and the flow is amazing. I really enjoyed this write. Nonets are not that easy to write and getting them to flow with internal rhyme almost impossible, but you managed to make this stand out, love Dolly x

You beautifully capture this single moment in Spring when the Speaker catches a glimpse of blue high in a tree. I love these lines: a joyful jump will
fill my heart, shallow breathing
stops and starts ~ and zealously I
search to see if bluebirds nest near me.

Hi Rod... I didn't remember til I came to the finishing line that it had nine syllables and I could not continue the rhythm through to the end... It is fun to stretch and do different forms. Thank you.

This contest entry will be tough to beat. Good luck.
-
Thanks Rod, but with your talent you could easily win. Double dare you to enter... :)
-
I was going to, but your poem is a powerful deterrent.
-
I just looked at your portfolio and saw all of your wonderful work and wins.. you have nothing to fear!
-
I am quite flattered, but I will still pass on this one.

I loved the subject of your well-constructed Nonet. Alas, the bluebird has become increasingly rare, pushed out by that invader from the British Isles, the starling, which prefers similar nesting sites and food. Travelers to the New World brought caged starlings along to remind them of home. Thanks for nothing!

I soooo agree with you Thomas... whenever I see starlings in my garden, which is often, I get angry and remember the story you just told. Yes, thanks for nothing!

"A Flash of Blue"
This is basically about the possibilities of seeing bluebirds and even better when they're nesting.
Well written rich in Theme and Imagery.
It also, read well and flowed well with No Grammar Issues.
Good luck with your contest entry and have a Blessed day.

This is a beautifully stated animal Nonet entry. The text is a good size. The message is clearly stated. One can sense your appreciation for the bluebirds. The visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

interesting word choices. I can identify with a fellow bird watcher. I've got gold finches, chickadees and tit mice, oh, and cardinals. Love 'em.
Your nonet poem expresses your fondness for blue birds. They are very pretty. We don't have them here.
Did you find a nest?

Thanks so much! No, I have quite a few neighbors who have bluebird houses, so I am blessed to see several during the season. :). I do like watching the birds and listening for their songs. I have an app called Merlin ID that is fantastic. It's by Cornell University.

Wow. Reading your post on the eve of New Year's Eve got me thinking of spring with the birds chirping, grass growing green and flowers in bloom. Can't wait.
Good luck in the contest.
Thanks. John
