This is a well written poem and good advice. I like the rhyming, as you have not repeated yourself and the use of the word 'plop' is great, but some of the lines have a strange rhythm to them. For example, most of your lines have 13 beats in them but then, every so often so put a 15 beat line in and that makes the poem read a bit odd to me. As you may have gathered, I like a poem with a set rhythm pattern so I will apologise if that was not your intention here.
This is a good poem, which I like though

Celyn, I love you!! OMGosh, I was so tired and took this to bed and meant to make improvements on my words, but got my meter all screwed up and after you said something I thought, why didn't someone say something earlier. I am known for rhyme and meter. That is my style but this looked like something a 4th grader wrote. And here you were so kind about it, but still able to tell me what you were thinking. I must have been writing in my sleep. You my dear just won yourself a nomination for reviewing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I just have one favor to ask of you???? I also must have changed the color in the middle of the night, so I changed it back. Will you please take a look at it again and tell me if it reads better. And if you like the color better. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart!, . Thank you my sweet friend!.

That is much better but I think that the first line of the last stanza would be better as something like 'Are you making friedns from your pedestal on top?'

Yes, there is indeed a fine line between humility and humiliation. Once you cross it, it's not easy to recover your self/reflect. It's best to do self-checks now and then. Pride comes before a crash...

Thank you June. If you read this an hour ago, then you probably read my big mess. I took my ipad to bed with me last night to change some ot the wording but before I could change the meter too, I fell asleep and I forgot all about it. It is fixed now, but I am so sorry you had to read it the way it was. Rhyme and meter are more my style so I am kind of mad at myself. But oh well it is fine now. However I thank you for reading it and still giving me a nice review and such kind words. As always June, you are so gracious and sweet.

I'm running out of sixes with you, my dear! A wonderful poem of accessing the best within ourselves especially in our reviewing. I've seen some mean swats and low scores lately and I wonder... why-? It hurts the new member's reputation when they seek to bring down another writer out of spite. What goes around, comes around. They hurt themselves most of all. Thank you for this cautionary word, and as Christians, even as grown-ups, we should seek the high road.

Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs

Excellent presentation! The picture and poem literally 'reflect' off each other! Certainly those who are egoistic and self-absorbed are rarely happy and fulfilled! The last line wittily sums up the theme!

I love the last line here to sum up your poem Debi, with social media nowadays everyone is showing off their lifestyle and their new dressed, houses, cars etc. I think the reality is very different though and some of these people are friendless. I love the sentiment here and we need to be more humble in life, love Dolly x

A good lesson for the times we are living in. I love the line: "Less is mostly more and more is mostly less." True!

In these days of social media, I feel that our young people are surrounded by humiliation. I feel sorry for them.

Thanks for sharing, Debi.

LOL, Pam it would also be a great lesson for some newbies that come on here and think they know it all. Most catch on easy but I hate anyone being so disrespectful to their peers &.low ratings because she couldn't feel it. I Anyway, sooner or later I write one for everyone. This one is the soonest tho. Thanks my friend for the kind and "respectful" review and comments!
Btw, did you talk to your son today? We are in a blizzard and have 16 inches of snow since 2pm yesterday..with the wind, we can't see our garage even.
    Thanks again Sweetie!

I talked to him yesterday and they didn't think they'd get as much in the city. I'll check back today.

Gives you time to stay in and write!

Humility is a valuable gift, and is the converse of the attitude of those who like to humiliate others. It is true that the humble will be raised up, and the proud and arrogant will be brought low. We all need to monitor our attitudes with this in mind - well, I certainly do, at least. Applicable to individuals and to nations and their leaders. Well written.

I most certainly do too Wendy. If we were perfect, we wouldn't need Jesus. But I do try to keep a caring heart and a positive attitude towards others.
However there have been a few new people who have come on here and have been very disrespectful and disruptive to almost everyone. I've worked too hard, and waited too long to have my dream. I thought this might be some food for thought. Anyway, I thank you Wendy for your lovely review, words and you! As always you truly are one of the loveliest people on here and I'm thankful for your friendship!

Yes, we need to follow the example of the King and creator of the universe - the Lord Jesus Who modeled humility for us.
One suggestion is to highlight the "yes" and "no" so it's not confused as part of the phrase :
"No" can be so crucial
But "yes" opens more

Thank you! I meant to do that so I will go back and edit and take care of it!
Thank you Helen for such sweet comments for this poem! With that said, how was your reunion w Jay? I bet he was as thankful to hold you in his arms as you were to be there! (I'm also a hopeless romantic) LOL!
In fact what is the time difference? I am central so one hour before you in Washington! Are you into Wed afternoon and is the funeral over?
I pray you and your mom are ok! Thank you again my sweet friend.
Will be looking forward to your reply! Love you! Debi

Thanks for thinking of me! I'm 4 or five hours behind you. Hawaii doesn't doesn't do the savings time. tomorrow is the funeral. That funeral home didn't call me back when I asked them to verify our pick up time. Sigh.

It just seems that since you got there, like so much has gone wrong. The mortuary doesn't seem real honest w all the extras keep getting added in, and the wait, and I know you didn't need everything so drawn out, mosquitoes & bites, hot & humid, cockroaches, ewe!
So my dear, I will make you a ice cold glass of lemonade!
And forgive me for preaching to the preacher, because you're the most positive sweetest person I know. But I get the lemonade out, I talk to God & all of a sudden I find all the things that had gone wrong, I found a new perspective . For instance someone small and not important but missed a deadline by a couple minutes and asked Tom if he could still get it in, but then my name was on it and then he set it was too late. So I gave it some thought & told myself that well now I didn't have to have my identification hidden, I would have more fun w reviewers this way... blah blah blah!! That's a poor example, but I make my lemonade analogy while not having to be.disappointment about. things that didn't work out. Duh, you handle that way. I'm being silly. I think I've just been so worried about you that I trying to talk myself into believing that God maybe had a reason for it to work out this way. Like More time w your mom. Yet it seems so unfair to have to wait so long to bury your dad.
Just drink your lemonade and maybe Debi will stop driving you crazy! Lol
reply by lyenochka on 05-Jan-2023
Thanks for praying. It rained through the time at the burial but we got home safe and Mom had a good day. We're so thankful.

My grandmother used to say not one person gets to the top by crawling over others. I sense a bit of that wisdom in these satirical words ~ playful but with lots of wisdom.

It is SO much easier to be kind, isn't it? There are ways to say things that lift another up, rather than cut them off at the knees. True in life, true here.

Honestly, Debi, if I have nothing at all good to say about a post, I pass it by. I'd never one-star anyone! What is the point?

I love to be enlightened, and any editorial help or phrasing assistance is not only sorely needed by THIS woman but welcome! Just don't send it to me on the end of a switchblade... As a very few do, on occasion.

Never YOU!

As I answered a particularly harsh reviewer not so long ago (and she was new so, maybe didn't understand... manners?)

"I don't need fluff or sickly sweet! But bitchy comments? Please delete!"

If I'm way off on this interpretation then hit me in the head with some lemonade and thanks for letting me vent!

Way to go Thelma!

Or are you Louise?

I"m good with either!

Karenina
