This was good. Just sorry I missed it. And the decent reward. Not sure I can get to the three lines of review. We will see. Quite a lot of drama and I wonder how much of it is caused by the evil one?

Your story is always suspenseful (in each chapter). Sure glad that they are finally getting the bad fellows caught, so they don't escape. Got caught up on my reading now onto your nineth chapter.

So sorry for being late, but better late than never. Another gripping chapter with Detective Thompson finding his daughter's killer.

You have left us with a good clue for interest, that man from the festival is still alive.

Always very well written.

Oh, Watch Guy has to survive! I bet he was left for dead, but his kind don't die easily. I wouldn't blame Tommy if he beat him up some more. The creep has that and a lot more coming!

Hi Sally,
It seems that Tommy's temporary partner, Willa, might prove to be the new love in his life that Patience hinted at. But He has some healing to do before he can proceed in that direction.
Then, there's the odd-looking fellow from the fair. He found his way into Betty Jo's barn, likely through the same hole that the old raccoon has been using. But who beat him up? And why? It wasn't robbery, or they might have taken his watch. If he survives, he might be able to tell the detectives some important leads.
As I read this new detective mystery, I keep thinking how much help Sally's team could have been to the Aspen Grove office.
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Sally,

This is an excellent chapter and I am out of sixes and way behind in reviewing. There is plenty of action and forward movement. I liked the budding relationship between Tommy and Willa. The hound names are great. Super chapter.

This interesting chapter adds two new threads that fit prior hints an alert reader may recall -- what happened to the mysterious man who was last seen with Phoebe, and what Patience had revealed to Tommy about
his future.

While Captain Riley was helping County Sheriff Gonzalez examine the scene of Phoebe's murder, the search and rescue dogs picked up a scent that led to the farm of Betty Jo Jenkins; so he texted Willa and Tommy and asked them to meet him there if any evidence were found. When that turned out to be the aforementioned mysterious man, alive but badly beaten, he called 911, then texted again to hurry over. They hastened, bringing along Chase Levins, excited about being included.

En route, emergency vehicles fast approached from behind, so Willa pulled onto the road's shoulder (easement) to wait for them to pass. The crumbling strip caused a rough stop, prompting her to stretch her arm out to keep Tommy from lurching forward.

(I remember doing that in my father's manual shift sedan before he sold it to me for a dollar after I got married, and continued until optional lap belts became available, after which I installed them in both front and back. It was sixteen years old and had over 248,000 miles on it when I traded it for my '64 Galaxie in 1967.)

I like the way you described Tommy's realization that Willa might be the woman destined to be the love he needed, though this was not the moment to dwell on those thoughts. Tommy jumped out to recheck the front right tire, then moved to the back to gently push the car out of its dangerously weakening spot; and Chase joined him. They quickly succeeded and got back inside. The last sentence in the chapter suggests that both Tommy and Willa understood the significance of the benefit of being together in a difficult circumstance. That is solid bedrock upon which a lasting love can be built.

Superb.

Mike is back!!!! Not only have you recovered, you back to your reviewing form in an instant. This lets me know how great you are doing. You have kept up with my new book in flawless Mike fashion. I'm glad you're enjoying it as well. I thought I'd add the love interest between Tommy and Willa as real life must have love especially when fighting demons and their ilk. That's my take on it anyway.

Thank you for the lovely review and generous stars. I'm enjoying my answered prayers.
Sending you my best today as always,
    Sal :)))))

You are most welcome, Sal. Besides feeling better, I am delighted to resume reading and reviewing your latest book chapters, Susanjohn's new poems, and posts by many others I am following. I'm still limiting my reviewing to my weekly allotment of Sixes, as I have too much going on outside FanStory right now; but I read far more than I review. Sorry, even some of your standalone posts are not exempt because I must be fair to others. I won't write cursory reviews just to increase the volume or accumulate more funds.

You are right that love mitigates anguish. You have outstanding skill in writing that aspect of a story, and I agree that you chose the right moment to include it in this chapter. :))))) -- Mike

This is another fine chapter. It is interesting that the man from the Fall Festival was in the barn but badly injured. I would imagine he is going to survive. I'm having to get used to this being told through a voice other than that of the blind lady.
