This free verse, The Poet, reminds the readers that we absorb the world we see and interpret with the spin of creativity. From the mouths of babes will great poetic phrasing be uttered.

Absolute truth and what a thought provoking poem. I think back to all the times that I was the first to leave a room. Thank you for sharing. Well said and well done.

Ohhh! This is EXCELLENT!! And true! I would even venture to say "writer" instead of limiting it to "poet" (not that I think you should change it; I just changed it for my own inclusion, since I'm not a poet.) I seem very outgoing and lively --and one-on-one, I am. But at parties, I am a complete and total wallflower. My biggest goal is stay only as long as it would seem socially acceptable. So, this poem resonated in the biggest way!!

Thank you for your wonderful review. Sometimes I feel overcome by the words in a noisy crowd... hence, the poem. :)

The Poet - a poem I can relate to. In a room with too many people and noise and not enough space - writing alone seems like bliss. I like the brevity yet succinctness of this short piece. Nicely done :-) ~DD

I don't know if the poet would leave, Melissa, but I would. :) I'm not a to many people person. Wasn't that way, but life left me with our hearing its call. I can't hear and too many people talking is like... I'm in limbo where voices crash with each other. Nada comes into my understanding. :) So you are correct this poet would leave.

Thanks so much for understanding, Jose... I could identify with this poet. It takes quiet and solitude to think of poetry and all of those incessant words would do me in. :)

Melissa,
I like the irony of this free verse poem. It rings true and is ironic that a master of words, is overwhelmed by the words of others.
Great work, Melissa.
Good luck,
Cindy

What a splendid comment in free verse form. I suppose the cacophony of meaningless party noise would cause the poor poet to flee the room. I never did enjoy those big parties. It is years since I have been to anything like that - I am probably too old to be invited these days.

Ah-hah. Perhaps you have explained why I am either the first to leave a social gathering or simply never went. I find my own conversation with myself far more uplifting. luv, ya luv.

There is truth in these words. Crowded rooms leave us little space to reflect and dream. We must retreat inwards from time to time. It is there that we meet the poet.

Hi,
What an amazing poem.
So short yet perfectly to the intended point.
The presentation speaks volumes regarding the inherent meaning.
Blessings
Shirley
