This was adorable. I love that the picture was in fact of your husband and daughter. The wilderness can be rough especially for a little kid. But what an awesome adventure for you and your family. Great job with this. Awesome prompt for Memories. Gretchen

I found the author's words to be sweet, meaningful, descriptive and
creative. I like how the author phrased the words of a child! The poem
flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome!

Very funny and quite enjoyable. I hope your dad provided a little shoulder massage for your momma. As you grew up did you ever go cut down a tree one more time?

A wonderful photo and memory you have shared here. I remember a time when real trees were all families got at Christmas time and how fantastic they smelled. Your poem brought back those memories. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the review and excellent comments. I miss the real trees but they drop needles and make a mess. The smell was worth it though.

This is a quaint story that fits well into a short poem - well done. The rhyming is generally great but you have used 'tree' three times and 'me' twice. I know that the poem is about a tree but I would have tried to stop using it as your end rhyme. The rhythm is good as well but I think that I would have changed the last line of the first stanza to ' I said "Pick me up! These briars do stick' as your current line is just one beat over.
Nevertheless this is a good poem so good luck with it

What a cute little girl perched so high above,
and a handsome dad, with the patience of love.
I bet that your tree was especially fine
chosen by a mamma who sounds just like mine. :)

it was my pleasure!

A charming photograph which complements the poem so well! The words are very authentic and the reader 'hears' the voice of the child! At that age,
there is no way you can use a rational argument!

A sweet memory put to verse with great rhyme and tempo. Memories are made of this - the simple moments shared with those we love. Good luck in the contest.

I envy you being able to just go and cut down a Christmas tree as this is impossible in England, we have to buy one from the local shop. I loved the reminiscing here and your photograph to give your poem its authenticity, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly. I appreciate the great review. We couldn't just cut down a tree on anyone's land without permission. This place happened to be on my Dad's land.
