Both your descriptions and the actions of your characters set the readers up for what promises to be a light-heated tour of the place and its people.
Momma Amenhecer, Captain Parrot, My Dutch-less, and the cat are all well-defined.

Ciao!

You packed a lot in this first chapter yet your narrative flowed well and the read was very entertaining.

The description of the supermarket lady whose mass you find intimidating and her also two sizeable kids had me in stitches. ( idem the shoe box sized fridge )

You wrote a nice poem about the English singer and his stuffed parrot. I was just a bit disappointed his feathered sidekick was not real.

You are a generous soul. What is important , she has your number, one day it may come in handy if she 's in need for help. She'll have somewhere to turn. And you never know she just might drop you a line to thank you for your kindness.

As you know my mother was Dutch , her English was top notch and her accent was practically zero. . Dutch is a very hard language to learn more exception than rules. The education is high level. My mother spoke fluent German too.

The last section was heartfelt seeing I love and have sheltered many cats. I'm happy to hear the homeless felines are respected and cared for in Albufeira. Where I live there was a creep that was poisoning them. He was caught on camera surveillance and fined heavily.

They are great therapy pets as you have found out yourself. (wink)

PS: I have seen you have already posted chapter 2 .

Don't rush .. I LOVE pizza but if I ate it everyday it wouldn't be so appealing after awhile. Your work is engaging just leave some time in between posts.

You bring smiles to my heart. So thorough are your reviews. Thank you. I plan on holding back the next couple of chapters until I probably get back from the states. I have them written but will continue to review for clarity. I suspect there will be close to 10 when finished or when I feel done. Thanks again for the six stars.

    Ciao

This is very interesting what you have written about. I am so glad you had a little cat friend to welcome you there. Cats can be very friendly. It was good to be able to speak to some people the spoke English. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Teri

You did a really nice job on the piece. I like the way you blended two writing styles - a formal critique followed by a poetic critique. (I don't know how else to say it.)

There was only one place that I had to read it twice. " Momma provides the total and without expression" near the beginning. I didn't realize that she was providing the total cost. I thought it was the total items, but as I read along I figured it out.

Again, it was an enjoyable read.

This is a great start to your story, introducing the colourful characters that you have met so far in your stay in this country. I like your poem about the cat: "Hello my friend
Your greeting warms my soul
There`s no jungle gaze in your eyes
I only see a friend who welcomes me."
