It take a while for a child to know the difference.

Yes, the lines between fantasy, imagination, and reality get blurred for children. This entry was one of contrasts, commentary, and opinion. It met the word count, was free of spelling errors, and resonated with all who dealt with Santa, the Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny.

Best wishes.

Your commentary outlines a list of the very real concerns that exist today, information and choices that no small child should be expected to make. Society has been robbing them of their innocence in the most insidious way and parents need to be vigilant in their controls of what takes it from them and when. That is what we need to raise healthy children who are our future. Sorry, I am beginning to write my own commentary here, but you have hit on a very important topic. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Ginda. I'm glad to know other people see it the same way I do. Being a child these day mean new pitfalls we didn't have to deal with.

This is a good article and it makes so much sense. No, it was never easy being a child. As a child, we innately believe in magic because everything is new and different and the world is full of mystery and excitement. Add to that, we're taught to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, but we are expected to believe the the monster under the bed or in the closet isn't real. I think many of us still yearn for that bit of magic which is why we immerse ourselves in fantasy and science fiction. Anyway, this is a thought provoking post. Good luck in the contest.

I think this is a great entry for the contest. You have covered so many things that make childhood confusing - like Fairy Tales. I especially like what you said: "I find it alarming that now many children are told they should feel free to choose whatever sex they might feel they would like to be." I am glad I am not raising children in this day and age.

Thank you Valentina. I so glad you liked this. Children are different and my thought might not fit all of them, but I think many would see it this way.

This is a reflective piece that explores the author's experience of childhood and how it has shaped their understanding of the world. The author reflects on how their understanding of the world was shaped by books and stories, and how it was difficult to distinguish between reality and fantasy. They also express concerns about how technology and society have changed childhood and the challenges that children face today. I have to agree with probably 100% of what you wrote. The biggest agreement is your final line - I'm glad I got mine over with many years ago.

So am I, glad...

Cheers John
