I would love to add the Caribbean Reinita to my life list of birds, but I've not visited Puerta Rico. Apparently I need to add the destination to my birding bucket list!

Beautifully written poem, I could almost feel the sand under foot and hear the frogs challenge the birds in their own songs.

Good job. I enjoyed. ann

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review today. How funny to say 'birding bucket list.' Maybe I need one of those, too.

Well, you are right. The artwork is beautiful. I have never seen the artist's work before, I will have to look it up. Thank you. The poem is also very well done. I have never been to Puerto Rico, but after reading your poem, I feel like I was there listening. Terry.

Such a vision, "The warmest of the whitest sands..." Absolutely beautiful words that resonate with me. Well composed, great flow and a joy to read. Thankyou

I knew a Cookie long ago, in university, but not you I see, being born in the mid to late 60's you would be but five to ten, and unless SHeldon-like I cannot pretend you could be her. Good luck.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Yeah, I was born in 1969. My mom said I watched men walking on the moon when I was a baby while sitting in my parents' lap.

A very romantic poem in my read. When I saw your pen name, I just had to read your work. Being of great talent and education to boot, I will be like many who read your prose and understand your knowledge, ask, might you give a writing of mine a read? I am just coming out with a series called the Doors of Albufeira that journal my days in the coastal town of Albufeira in Portugal. I have little background in writing and find myself less in eloquence and more in quirky expression. Thank you in advance. Kaiku

Sounds like a beautiful I grew up reading of James J Audubon. I used to love to show the kids the beautiful birds discovered over the years. That is how I also got hooked on National Geographic and the ocean views.great job.

Thank you for the author's notes, which I read first so I knew what a reinita and a coquis were.

I like the line "until the night has washed out with the tide" - one can imagine both happening together over time.

What a beautiful way in which you describe this bird and the area in which it lives and sings it songs. Very nicely done. So glad that you have rejoined the FanStory community and are sharing your poems with us.

Take care,
Pam

Thank you for a stellar review. I ought to write more here in addition to writing about three times as much for my local state poetry society.

A lovely and descriptive free form poem. I enjoyed the line "A world unsmoked my human hands" as you so beautifully described the nature in this lush forest area. My one thought was that the line "Her song careens off.." sounded abrupt to end the line here. I think I would have included "palm tree trunks" in the same line so the word "Off" was less emphasised. Otherwise really nicely done.

This is a magical write Crystie, you captured a musical and colourful bird on a tropical island under the warm skies. Your poem is so very skilfully written and pleasing.

I particularly enjoyed these lines:

until the night
has washed out with the tide.

Your pen has excelled in this free verse and this is such a pleasure to read this Sunday morning.

Love Dolly x
