Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Ciao!

I'm going to give this chapter a sixer because you illustrate a craftsmanship I imagine unknown in America cause I can sense your amazement and admiration reading your account.

In Italy also many street in the historic parts of towns, cities have the same blocks which are quickly laid in place by 2/3 men and then a machine pounds them down .. sometimes two different colours are used to create a mosaic effect.

About 15 years our council replace the old uneven pebbled narrow streets with this lovely style called pavée here in Italy

They can be place straight or in a fan shape or two colours can be used like in your pic ..

one thing is different though .. I have never seen the pointed shape ones here , they are all blocks with 4 edges.

The workmen are crouched down with a tiny hammer and the blocks are positioned quickly ... it took months to do our streets in the historical center.

The stone work in Europe continues to amaze me. The time it takes and the individual handling of pieces requires such patience. The 6 stars is very generous. Thank you.

I'm sort of a "math geek" especially in things like you referred. Your calculations are 100% correct, 285,120 and 11,880 respectively.

That aside, a great post, very interesting and insane how those masons were so meticulous in their craft. Incredible to see as well I'm sure.
Thank you for sharing.
John

Fascinating! And from a first hand admirer. Thank you for the information and picture. I can't imagine having the patience to do something so tedious and repetitive, but it must be a passion for the stone worker - and a good thing that it is.
What have you made with stone, if you don't mind my asking?

Thank you for reading and the review. I have created internal walls, external walkways and a patio gathering place. I enjoy working with stone. I have also done a fair amount of tiling.

It is always interesting to find the old ways where the process is as important as the result. Where beauty wins out over mere functionality.

The piece reads well. The pace is good. The images are clear. The narrative stays on point.

Thanks for a good read.
