Hi Jay,
So many songs that come from the heart simply lend themselves to that type of music, I think. The 80s power ballads are great examples of the type of songs that you're describing though too. They just don't really write them like that anymore. It's funny, some of the songs were enjoying a great resurgence with the school kids when my son was in junior high and high school. Journey, who were the kings of the 80s power ballads, were being sung at the top of the kid's lungs, at a dance I was chaperoning. It was around 2014, 2015... I couldn't believe it! I felt as though I'd stepped into a time machine.
Since when did kids sing 30-year-old music at the top of their lungs and play it willingly?
Country music today does have the tendency to be written in a more direct and clear way about life. Other genres have a tendency to be more representational at times... it helps to know something of the artist to make the connection. I like it all. I haven't really found anything that hasn't at least grown on me to a tolerable degree. (Rap took quite a while.)
Look at me, a novella on music.
I'd better stop.
Nice poem, Jay
Susan :)

I like many kinds of music and country music is one of them, starting with Hank Williams.
A great theme for the month of January and your sonnet form is fine.
Always enjoy reading your poetry friend, Jay. :))

This is an interesting piece. I always thought of country songs to be like telling stories.
This part is great:
They run the reaches of our life,
enclose the ups and downs and strife.
Thank you for sharing!

I agree with this author "the lyrics of country songs make for great
poetry! Thank you, Jay. I found the author included Country Music into
his feeling about writing poetry. The poem flows and connects well.
Hi Jay, hope you are having a wonderful day!.....Maria

Your words are so true, country songs are all about life the way it really is. Your poetic form is smooth and brings forth feelings about country music that touch the reader.

Jay,
I'm not the biggest fan of country music but I do listen to the stories they tell. I think I'm bigger into country singers of the past more so than current artists.
That's what makes the world go round. We all can't be alike.
Your poem/song has a nice flow and rhythm to it.
Well done my friend.
John

Agreed, Jay.
Particularly the old time favorites... Patst Kline, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash....
I sit back and listen and smile...

Hello Jake,
I think you'll find a lot of agreement on your theme of country music lyrics
and poetry similarities. They both tell stories, albeit sad ones in country songs.
I enjoyed your rhymes and the sonnet style form.
Well said.
Best wishes.
Robert

Hi Jay, stick to your country music and sign their song because your poetry flows like a county-music song. I especially liked:
Their flow and cadence can't be beat.
I value them as a great treat.
(A treat indeed.)
Well done. Silky rhyming. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer
