Jesse, let me start by saying I'm glad David is over his bout with Covid. I hope he's not suffering any lingering aftereffects.

While I loved the hug at the end, what impressed me even more was your standing up to participate. David had worked with you for a long time and seen (and, I assume, contributed to) your progress, and he felt confident enough in you and your abilities to ask you to stand. That's wonderful, and so encouraging. I know, one day, he'll call to you from the far side of a room and ask you to walk over and join him, and you will!

Thank you for sharing such a lovely story of friendship, love, encouragement and courage.

Hello Michele. Yes, David has no lasting effects from Covid and he helped immensely in my progress with everything including walking with a walker and briefly being able to stand. I hope you are right and that one day he will ask me to walk over from across the room and I will be able to do it! I love your encouragement and belief in me. I also chose to answer this when I had enough time to tell you how much I appreciate your continuing friendship and belief in me! Thanks for always being there for me!

Jesse, I'm so sorry. I just realized I'd never replied to this (for all the reasons you already know).

I'm glad David's Covid recovery was complete. I love that you and he developed a friendship that outlasted your working relationship. He sounds like a very special person.

You're a special person too, Jesse, which is why you'll always have my friendship and belief in you!

The 60s were fun, the 70s a little more than the 80s, I don't remember much of the 90s, but I woke up, Jesse. :) I guess we're about the same and I can relate to you and David. So you better start walking, go to the beach and hike those trails with your friend.

Thank you, my friend, for reminiscing through the years with me. I hope you understand how difficult it will be to go to the beach or hike on nature trails for a while and begin to be like I used to be.

This was a touching account of meeting your friend after a medical separation. I'm glad he recovered well; it sounds like you are recovering too. My best to the two of you.
The second to the last paragraph seems to be a run-on sentence. Perhaps it could stop with a period after the word "hugged." Then, more impact would come from another sentence reading, ' It was the best part of the visit.' But, again, I mention this as just a tiny two-cents-worth thing--this is still a very impactful piece.
Best wishes for your full-recovery.

Thank you, Leather for your insightful review with a great suggestion packed in the middle of your review using the sandwich method which I use on occasion myself. I will consider this run-on sentence and make it more impactful as you suggested.
Thanks for your good wishes for my recovery.

Very nicely done indeed! This is a wonderful tribute to a friend and speaks highly of your character.

I shouldn't wonder if 'cohesive bond' wouldn't be better than 'cohesive ball'. It's the only part that gave me pause. Just my two cents.

Regardless, most excellent work!

-I'm very glad you were able to connect with David again, Jesse.
-I'm sorry he had Covid.
-You wrote a good story about your first meeting in quite a while.
-It doesn't take long for good friends to connect, and it sounds like
you have a great visit, reminiscing about old times.
-You have a good way of using creative images, like
"Chasing memories of forgotten favorite places rising up in conversation."
-I like that the poet in you also comes out in your prose.
-It is wonderful that he encouraged you to stand for a hug,
and I hope it won't be long before you will enjoy those trails and beaches, too!
-Very well done.

You are the first one to offer help by telling me I have a good way of using creative images like the following line from my prose piece. You have no idea how helpful that is for me. I too hope that David and I will be going on nature trails and walks on the beach very soon.
Thanks so much for your help and detailed descriptions of the way this piece made you feel.
    Have a happy day!

You are very welcome, Jesse, and I appreciate your reply. One thing that makes a difference is I was an English major and a teacher for 29 years so I notice a lot of things, like that poetic line. You are doing a really good job with your prose. Have a great evening and rest of your week!

I am proud to know you! You surely were a great teacher since you are so helpful now. Thank you. Your kind words mean the world to me!
Have a lovely evening as well!

Aw, Jesse, this is such a heartfelt piece which shows what real friendship and love is all about. You actually moved me to tears. No six left to give you, my friend. I wish I had. Ulla:)))

I love that I moved you to tears! I had hoped to show the true meaning of a close friendship by writing how good it felt to talk for hours about simply nothing and to finally hug for the very first time!

What a lovely portrayal of friendship this is, so special that they miss the other's presence even when separated briefly. And I like that you call attention to the importance of physical contact. There is nothing like a hug!

I agree, Ginda, there is nothing greater than a hug! I think physical touch is important even in this day of fear of Covid.
    Have a wonderful upcoming week!

This work has reached the exceptional level

This warms me, Jesse.

Through the trials of covid, the stress of anticipating surgery, the adjustment (and triumph!) of finding a new caregiver...

It's just so nice to hear you and David can lean heavily on a long friendship and reunite, (who could imagine!)--with you standing and embracing him, even as you embrace your long history together!

You have lifted one another up, in many ways over the years, it seems?
Perfect that he'd invite you to celebrate your progress with a standing hug!

Karenina

Thank you so much, Karenina for this six-star review! I have been through a lot, haven't I? I only want to add one more thing and that is the huge earthquake that we all endured during the holiday season took a lot out of all of us. But I still recognize your accolades for me and David and I know that the hug, in the end, was the real kicker!
Thanks again for this exceptional review and rating I owe you one, my friend!

You never owe me a thing, Jesse! I should have mentioned the earthquake...btw. Sorry. I was tunnel-visioned on interpersonal relationships and the amazing progress you are making!

I enjoyed reading about your visit with your friend. Your descriptions were vivid. It is a well done post. Having friends is a true gift. I don't know if I would have made it without family and friends. Sarah

I may not be close to my family but I cherish my friends like there is no tomorrow! Friends are the most important to me so David is as close as I get to anybody and hugging him was incredible!
