Hi Earl, those proud men and women you gave their lives
for us deserve to be honored and NEVER forgotten...

you see...I wonder if people really understand what those
soldiers gave to us...people fight everyday to live in different ways...not wanting to die...their lives are all they value...

but those soldiers...at a young age gave what we fight so hard to keep...their lives...they were willing to gave up their adult years...years to start families...to watch their own families grow....forfeit all the amazing wonders of the world...so our America...the people...could live in freedom...so we could be proud of our country...our flag
they carried in battle...proud of the United States of America...

it's great to be grateful to those soldiers...but honor them...and never forget what they gave up so we could live in freedom...and fight for that freedom they died for...

I love your poem my sweet friend...and your picture speaks for itself...you totally deserved 1st place...winner...CONGRATULATIONS...very well done...love Linda xxoo

You are right, Mystery Author. We, Americans, can never
repay what our military men and women have done for all
and continue to this day. Your poem was well thought out with
great descriptive words that created imagery for readers and
gave them much to think about. The rhymes worked well, too.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

This is a poignant poem. I was struck by the visual imagery that came from your choice of illustration and the words "in a garden of stone."
I think the dark green background color overpowers the black print--perhaps it could be lightened a shade or two.
Best wishes.

I understand and agree, and yet lives are lost on both sides. Who began the war between the states can stand in debate. Who eliminated the indigenous people? Can any wrong in one person's eyes be right in the other warring party? Hmmm
Ukraine is simply mind boggling. There will be no winner there. As for China, what can it do for Taiwan, that the small nation cannot do for itself. When will the madness end?

My father served three years of combat in WWII so I can relate to your words. Excellent poem for those who fought and died, your words are true, and it does seem that thanks is not enough. Excellent use of words and I like how you mention all the major wars, a history lesson here.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to those who sacrificed their all. I lost an uncle to the Korean conflict and a cousin to Vietnam whose families were forever changed castle well.

Well done

I found the author's words heartfelt, beautiful, sad, descriptive and creative. I found these words, as the author states, a great reminder of
how we must never forget what have been done for us. The poem flows
and connects well. The artwork alone is such a reminder to me.
Thank you for this Great and Meaningful Poem!

This contest invited all contestants (and readers) to pause a moment, in silent prayer and gratefulness, remembering all who gave their lives for this country. My granddad is buried in Arlington. When I have visited his grave I never cease to be struck by the seemingly endless sea of sacrifice.
Thanks for your sensitive presentation.
