That is a profound poem in so few words. Courage is indeed a light to others when life seems at its darkest. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes in the contest.

I love it. Very inspirational, touches the soul. Makes me want to go out and try something I've been afraid of doing. Every word carefully placed to create power. Perfect picture to go with wonderful words.

"Paradox" is a 2-6-2 writing prompt entry rich in Theme and Imagery.
It also, read well and flowed well with no Grammar Issues.
...
Note: Courage with light builds strength and power.
We all need to stay until the line spend each and every service Sunday in prayer taking in the sacrament and honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.

Although I don't think Emily Dickinson ever did syllable counting poetry, she did write poetry, I think, as brief as this poem "Paradox". I think that this poem's title was chosen because the word 'paradox' has has intellectual cachet, like 'syzygy' or 'imponderous' or 'diaphanous,' or, indeed, 'cachet.' But why is it paradoxical that courage brings light? If one expected darkness to be created by courage, light would be paradoxical, but such a statement is never made about courage - at least in my experience with words and statements. It would be paradoxical to say 'Courage is a dark thing, better hid in the closet than teased into risky illumination.' That's closer to Ms. Dickinson than what's presented in"Paradox."
In my opinion, it is never functional to merely choose a word because it is attractive; that word's significance must fortified and embodied within the text of a piece. So this 2-6-2 poem fails to justify its title, and lacks the surprise that needs to be present in a short poem. This is more sermonic than poetic.

Thanks for your thoughts. I did not choose the title for any of the reasons you mentioned, and you seem to have missed my point, but never mind. My poem has nothing to do with Emily Dickinson either. In my country we don't study her poetry, so I have not read more than a couple of her pieces. Not sure if you were implying I got my ideas from her, but I definitely did not.
    Sorry it didn't please you!

My main objection was that there is no paradox in this poem. Emily Dickinson was a truly great poet, and recognizing what makes her poetry great is a building block for any poet. However, it seems that you missed my points. Why, by the way, did you choose your title? All the best, Frank

To me it is a ?light-dark? paradox - that despite the deep darkness in our circumstances, the presence of courage is actually light. It is the light of courage which helps one to continue to place one foot in front of the other in total darkness when one can?t see. I obviously haven?t succeeded in expressing myself very well. To me the word paradox is quite an ordinary one, no particular intellectual cachet. I don?t count myself as an intellectual, and just write things which are meaningful to me. No aspirations to be a great poet. If others like what I write, fine, if they don?t, well, that?s also fine. Thank you again for your thoughts, always appreciated.

Got it. I would've called it 'Flame,' or something like that. Be well! Frank

I enjoyed these few words as we rely on our bravery when faced with danger and hope that the danger passes when we show ourselves to have great courage, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly. Yes it?s quite paradoxical that we can have the light of courage in the midst of deep darkness in our lives.
