Interesting idea for a contest, Tom. I have had similar existential thoughts prior to "going under" and in the end, it seems I always am whispering some version of "Thy will be done..." I'm not sure if I'll be able to enter this one... But thanks for sharing and I'll put my muse on notice!

This is a wonderful entry for the contest. Pre-surgery thoughts must go hand in hand with contemplating one's own mortality.

I liked this line because it had a cold creepy feel:
My gurney has arrived, and
the impact of nitrous oxide
has begun to take effect.
